The refutation is done with the saying, "Relatives are liberation." Some logicians completely transformed the scriptures and meanings of the noble ones, and explained some of the scriptures that abide in the way of the pāramitās as being only in the way of consciousness. This false way of the pāramitās, which has what as its root, is called by worldly people "speaking of mere consciousness." These very views of those logicians were refuted by the venerable master Chandrakirti in the Madhyamakāvatāra. Because refuting the way of the ultimate pāramitā is something that they themselves also openly admit. Otherwise, if the noble ones also showed the meaning of guidance, then the so-called difference of views would become completely unrelated to the teachings themselves. Considering these, (the Buddha) spoke these words: those authors of treatises such as the sthavira Dharmapāla, etc., also did not completely abandon the suchness of emptiness. "Pleased" means to take hold of the mind, in order to make the teachable beings accept the meaning of the teachings. This shows that the teachings of the Tathāgata are indeed meaningful. When asked what the listeners did, the answer is: "Praised," which means "to praise." The word "openly" before the word "praise" has the meaning of praise accompanied by action. When asked who those listeners were, the answer is: "Bodhisattva Maitreya, etc.," which means that the bodhisattvas openly praised the teachings spoken by the Bhagavan in the complete enjoyment body. The others (listeners) were emanations. "World" refers to the assembly of sentient beings, because (the Buddha) manifested in the human world. Let it not become a special case of being merely a collection of humans. Therefore, (the sutra says) "including gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas." "Those bodhisattvas and the world of gods, etc." means "completely gathered," which means the meaning of completeness. "Noble" refers to the nature that is completely purified by the essence of the teachings that are in accordance with the cause of the dharmadhātu, and all the defiled dharmas.

Because it has been long, it is called "Arya" (Noble). Because it is condensed into eight thousand verses, it is called "Eight Thousand Verses." Thus, this Eight Thousand Verses is called "the measure of the meaning as it is spoken." Because the name is Kana, it is the Eight Thousand Verses. Since it is both Arya and Eight Thousand Verses, it is "Arya Eight Thousand Verses." Among them, this which is completely entrusted, because it surrounds from all aspects, is the chapter of complete entrustment, that is, perfection is truly attained, made ultimate, called the chapter of complete entrustment, that is, the thirty-second chapter is complete. The "Eight Thousand Verses Prajnaparamita," called "The Producer of All Tathagatas," is said to be the distinction of the continuums of sentient beings, the Prajnaparamita itself, by the very nature of all-knowingness, becomes the Tathagata, therefore, by the very nature of the Dharma that produces Buddhas, it produces all Tathagatas, so it is said. Called "the Mother of all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas," it is said that the very nature of the wisdom of the path, in some continuums, becomes the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas themselves, therefore it is called their mother. The teaching of the Prajnaparamita is called the common ground of all beings, therefore it is also the mother of the Pratyekabuddhas and Shravakas. Called "the Seal of all Dharmas," Dharma is the teaching, its seal is the sealing. Because there is no teaching higher than this, it is the seal of Dharma. Or, this is all vehicles, therefore this very Dharma of the Bhagavan, whoever seals it like the seal shown by the king of Dharma, therefore it is the seal of Dharma. Called "the Lamp of Dharma," it is because it illuminates all Dharmas as they are, so it is the Lamp of Dharma. Called "the Center of Dharma," it is because it has completely abandoned the extremes of superimposition and defamation, and has become the center of the Dharmakaya, therefore it is the Center of Dharma. Called "the Drum of Dharma," it is because all Buddhas in all directions have shown this to the retinues, so the sounds of the teachings have perfected all directions, therefore it is the Great Drum of Dharma.
