Some, through external paths, develop the ability to recall past lives, remembering many eons, or many hundreds of thousands of eons, or many hundreds of thousands of births, or many thousands of births. However, they are not skilled in dependent origination. Regarding past actions, they do not truly know, but merely remember. They can see the distinctions of perception and feeling, but not the distinctions of self-nature. Therefore, they will become holders of such views: "I and the world are permanent." Either relying on the divine eye, or not truly knowing the continuous destruction of phenomena in an instant, they conceive that the things that arise now were previously created. They do not know that the continuum of consciousness goes from this world to another world. Regarding subtle and permanent things, they can distinguish the gross matter arising from subtle things, seeing the subtle state as abiding closely. Therefore, it will become like this: "I and the world are permanent." Some will become holders of such views. "I and the world are impermanent." How does this view arise? There are beings called the gods of the realm of non-perception. These beings die and transmigrate when perception arises. Some of them, having obtained clairvoyance at the time of death and transmigration, will remember having had perception before. Then they will tell others, and therefore it will become like this: "This world is impermanent." Or some, dwelling on the level of ordinary beings, due to their own arrogance, speak through the power of conceptualization, saying, "The world is impermanent." Some will also become holders of such views: "I and the world are both permanent and impermanent." How does this view arise? Here, when the world is destroyed, most beings will be born in the realm of the gods of clear light. Afterward, in the world that is about to arise, beings will die from there and be born in the palace of Brahma. Then, that one, having become alone, will abide there for a long time, and will think like this: "Other beings will also be born here." Afterward, when his lifespan is exhausted, he will die from there.

they will be reborn in another Brahma world. For them, it will become like this: we are Brahma, the creator, and the emanation. For him, it will become like this: I am the creator of these. Those who die from the Brahma world, generate supernormal knowledge, and see Brahma, will become holders of such a view: Brahma is permanent, while we are impermanent. Similarly, there are gods called those who delight in play, and some of them indulge in the pleasure of play, and their mindfulness is completely lost, so they die from there. Having generated supernormal knowledge, they see those gods and will say this: those who have not obtained the pleasure of play for a long time are permanent, while we are impermanent. Similarly, for those who make mistakes of mind, due to extremely creating faults of mind and dying, just like before, they will understand like this: they are permanent, while we are impermanent. Furthermore, some others, by the power of reasoning, consider form, sound, smell, taste, and touch to be impermanent, while mind, intellect, and consciousness are also impermanent. Thus, through four ways, they will hold such views: permanence and impermanence, self and world. Still others are attached to various letters, but in reality, they are not various meanings. They will become holders of such a view: the self and the world are neither permanent nor impermanent, and the self and the world are finite, and so on. In any case, these views will arise. This is because some worldly people rely on small meditative states, generate the divine eye, and thus see the finite world of sentient beings and the world of containers below, above, and around. Therefore, they will become holders of such a view: finite. Others rely on great meditative states and do not see the boundary below, above, and around. Therefore, they will become holders of such a view: infinite. Still others rely on intermediate meditative states, having the perception of finiteness above and below, but being infinite around.
