Meditative stabilizations and the like, which are done with intention, will transform into complete purification. Rising up is like a lion's majestic posture, or entering into samadhi in a transcendent manner, conforming to the proper way, or deviating from the proper way, and so on, changing according to various circumstances. Here, the Tathagata also constantly abides in samadhi, always maintaining equanimity. In one samadhi, one can also enter into all samadhis and rise up. Within all samadhis, one can also show one samadhi and rise up, as it is said in the sutras. With just one samadhi, one can also accomplish the activities of all samadhis. With many samadhis, one can accomplish the activity of one samadhi. In all samadhis, one shows one rising up. From various samadhis, one shows various risings up. From various risings up, one shows one samadhi, and so on, which should also be understood as it is said in the sutras. This is the power of knowing meditative stabilization, liberation, samadhi, and entering into samadhi. The power of knowing the recollection of past lives, as well as the power of knowing directly with the divine eye, and the power of knowing the exhaustion of defilements, should also be understood as it is said in the text itself. Fourteenth fascicle. Among the four fearlessnesses, the first and second are based on one's own benefit. The third and fourth are based on the benefit of others. The mention of shramanas and brahmins, etc., is because of the pride manifested by wisdom. The mention of gods and demons is because of the perfection of the divine eye and knowing the minds of others, etc. The mention of the Brahmas is because of their miraculous powers and great strength. The phrase "they do not truly see the cause" means that they do not see even a little of the contradiction that becomes the cause of their refutation. The phrase "obtaining bliss" means that it has been shown that there is no bristling of body hair, shrinking back, and so on. Because of that power, one vows to be in the position of the supreme elephant king, for the sake of the complete purity of the activity of the body. The phrase "obtaining without fear" means that there is no timidity in speech, or becoming inferior, and so on.

It shows that there is no place to be afraid. Therefore, roar like a lion, because the activity of speech is completely pure. The name "attaining fearlessness" shows that there are no doubts or discouragement in the mind. Therefore, turn the wheel of Dharma like Brahma, because the activity of mind is completely pure. Similarly, it should be applied to everything. The so-called "separately and correctly knowing the Dharma" and "separately and correctly knowing the meaning" refers to the vast number of treatises that are understood in the scriptures spoken by the Tathagata, which are the nature of the collection of words, the collection of names, the collection, and the collection of letters. Through these, one can separately and correctly know the Dharma, or separately and correctly know in order to separately and correctly know the Dharma. The so-called "meaning" refers to the collection of what is to be expressed, and knowing it is to separately and correctly know the meaning. Alternatively, all the Dharmas of cause and condition are Dharmas, and knowing them is to separately and correctly know the Dharma. Knowing the Dharmas of the fruit that arise in dependence on interdependence is to separately and correctly know the meaning. Alternatively, knowing all the virtuous and non-virtuous Dharmas with maturation is to separately and correctly know the Dharma. Knowing the obscured and unobscured, and the unstated Dharmas, is to separately and correctly know the meaning. Alternatively, understanding the truth of the origin and the path, that is, all the Dharmas on the side of the afflicted and purified Dharmas, is to separately and correctly know the Dharma. Knowing all the Dharmas belonging to the truth of suffering and cessation is to separately and correctly know the meaning. Alternatively, knowing all the thoughts, habits, behaviors, aspirations, and faculties of those to be tamed is to separately and correctly know the Dharma. Understanding those to be tamed, such as guidance, understanding, needing guidance, accepting words, great and small afflictions, sharp and dull faculties, those with and without fortune, is to separately and correctly know the meaning. The so-called definitive words are those that are known in the world.

English

Those various collections of names, etc., are called definitive words because of their own definite words. Or, those who dwell in the eighteen great continents, those who dwell in the sixteen great countries, those who dwell in the ninety-eight borderlands, all the people belonging to the center of the country, those belonging to the birthplaces of animals, pretas, all hell beings, asuras, nagas, gandharvas, all kinnaras, siddhas, mantra holders, those who perform and wander in play, etc., and the retinue of the four great kings, the thirty-three, etc., the gods of the desire realm, all the retinue of demons, Brahma, all the mantra holders of the retinue of the pure abode gods, all speech, are the Dharma of definitive words. Knowing those is called truly knowing each definitive word. Those three kinds of knowledge, whichever knowledge it is, are the individual fearlessness. According to the thoughts and habits of those to be tamed, truly expounding the Dharmas accordingly, causing them to understand, causing them to comprehend, is truly knowing each individual fearlessness. Bodhisattvas, in all realms of the world, the continuous arising of the Dharma stream of all Buddhas, by truly knowing each Dharma, truly grasp it in just one instant. By truly knowing each meaning, in that very instant, they also grasp the meaning of those Dharmas. In that very instant, in various realms of the world, with the definitive words of various beings to be tamed, by various truly knowing each definitive word, they teach the Dharma. By truly knowing each individual fearlessness, they cause those to be tamed to directly grasp the Dharma nature. Among the eighteen unique Dharmas of the Buddha, the so-called Tathagata has no confusion, which means that there is no confusion in the activities of body, speech, and mind. For example, when Arhats walk in cities, etc., for alms, calamities such as elephants, horses, cows, fierce dogs, thorns, poisonous snakes, etc., appear, and in solitary places there are thieves, tigers, and leopards.
