The phrase is called "cessation." Although it is called complete nirvana, will it still be born as an emanation? Or is there no complete nirvana? Although such things have happened before, in reality, that emanation is neither born nor is there complete nirvana. This is what is being expressed. O Blessed One, if there is no difference between an emanation and a Tathagata, then how can offerings be completely purified? And so on. Just as offering to a Tathagata is of great merit, offering to an emanation of a Tathagata is also said to be of great merit. This is asked in order to distinguish the occasion. How can offerings be completely purified? It means, does offering to an emanation of a Tathagata also become great merit? O Blessed One, sentient beings seeking merit, and so on. This is a detailed explanation and question about the content briefly asked above. Just as the merit obtained from offering to a Tathagata is inexhaustible, is the merit obtained from offering to an emanation of a Tathagata also inexhaustible? This is what is being asked. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, in terms of the nature of reality, and so on. Just as offering to a Tathagata is of great and inexhaustible merit, offering to an emanation of a Tathagata is also of great and inexhaustible merit. This is what is being expressed. In terms of the nature of reality, it means that the Tathagata and the emanation of the Tathagata are the same in the ultimate truth, being the nature of reality of non-substantiality; in the relative truth, they both appear for the benefit of sentient beings, and they are the same in performing the deeds of the Buddha. Therefore, they are also the same as objects of offering. Offering to both of them, with a pure mind, and later remembering and offering flowers, and even just saying the words "I prostrate to the Buddha," the merit is also inexhaustible and great. This is what is being expressed. Understanding the nature of reality of all phenomena means that in the ultimate truth, both are the nature of reality of non-substantiality, and in the relative truth, there are

Arising for the sake of that meaning, and the nature of Dharma that is equal to the activities of the Buddha, that is revered, therefore there is no difference whatsoever between the Tathagata and the emanation of the Tathagata, this is the final conclusion. The Dharma-nature of all phenomena should also not be disturbed, etc., which indicates that one should not contradict the Dharma-nature. For all phenomena from the six perfections and so on up to omniscience, the individual characteristics of those phenomena, and the Dharma-nature of those phenomena, emptiness, suchness, if those are distinguished and contemplated separately, the Dharma-nature will be disturbed, one should not do that, this is what is to be shown. Question: Blessed One, if it is the case that the Dharma-nature of phenomena is not to be disturbed in that way, etc., if in that way one contemplates and distinguishes the characteristics of phenomena and the Dharma-nature of phenomena, the Dharma-nature will be disturbed and contradict the Dharma-nature. Blessed One, you have separately explained the characteristics of phenomena from form and so on up to omniscience, haven't you disturbed the Dharma-nature of phenomena? This is presented in the form of a question. The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, it is not so, etc. The Blessed One has thus separately explained the phenomena, in order for sentient beings to understand, only names and signs are mentioned, but there is no contemplation or attachment to that itself, therefore the Dharma-nature has not been disturbed, this is what is to be shown. Question: Blessed One, if it is for the sake of others to understand, etc., all phenomena are empty of inherent existence in ultimate truth, what is the use of indicating something that has no name or sign with names and signs? This is the question that is raised. The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, expression is neither name, nor sign, nor attachment, which means that in order for sentient beings to understand, it is only indicated according to the names and signs that are known to sentient beings, but there is no grasping of names and signs as real, and there is no attachment, therefore there is no fault.
