That is to show that reason, what is not done refers to what is not done by the doer. What is not manifested refers to what is not produced by the assembly of causes and conditions. O Lord, if all dharmas are not done, that is, not manifested, then how are the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle, these three vehicles, to be understood? This is a question raised in order to explain that in the ultimate sense there is no division into three vehicles, nor is there any establishment. The Lord replied: Subhuti, for dharmas that are not done, not manifested, there is no object of establishment, and so on. This is to show that in the ultimate sense all dharmas are empty of inherent nature, and for dharmas that are not manifested, there is no division into three vehicles, nor is there any establishment. But in the conventional sense, for ordinary people who do not possess hearing and thought, for those who manifest and discriminate, there is division into three vehicles and establishment. Why is that? Because in this way, ordinary people who do not possess hearing and thought are attached to the aggregates, and so on. This is to show that reason, ordinary people, because of unreal discrimination, are attached to dharmas such as form, and develop arrogance, and in order to guide sentient beings, they think that after they attain enlightenment they will liberate sentient beings from samsara. In the conventional sense, there is only the separate establishment of the three vehicles, but in the ultimate sense, even the five eyes of the Tathagata do not see any dharma, and there is no object of focus. Among them, "blind" refers to being blinded by ignorance. "Without eyes" refers to not possessing the five eyes. O Lord, if the five eyes of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, do not see any sentient being who can be completely liberated from samsara, and so on. This is to show that in the ultimate sense there is no sentient being as an object of focus, but in the conventional sense, it is to turn sentient beings who have become inverted from their inversion.

For this reason, it is explained that it is divided into three parts. Among them, correct determination refers to the certain practice of obtaining the cause of achieving the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Uncertainty refers to staying at the mouth of a virtuous friend. Incorrect determination refers to those who have wrong views and have cut off the roots of virtue. Please ask, World Honored One, whether entering the ultimate truth, realizing the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and becoming a Buddha, etc., because in the ultimate truth, there is neither abiding nor the need to realize Buddhahood, so it is not Buddhahood in the ultimate truth. The mundane is inverted, so abiding in the mundane and realizing Buddhahood is not either. Abandoning those two extremes, with the unspeakable nature, each realizes all dharmas in his own way of wisdom, which is the realization of Buddhahood, thus explaining. In order to understand that meaning by analogy, Subhuti, for example, the incarnation of the Tathagata, etc., is explained, the incarnation of the Tathagata should perfect the six paramitas and other pure dharmas, turn the wheel of the Dharma, transform many sentient beings, and explain in three parts. Similarly, after the Tathagata perfected the accumulation, realized the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and became a Buddha, he turned the wheel of the Dharma and divided sentient beings into three parts. Explaining is not explaining from real things in the ultimate truth, but only explaining in the mundane in the form of illusion and incarnation. Please ask, World Honored One, if all dharmas are like illusions, then what is the difference and distinction between the Tathagata and the incarnation? From what aspect is it considered? This is a question raised to explain in detail the meaning that there is no difference between the Tathagata and the incarnation in doing the deeds of the Buddha, such as benefiting sentient beings in the mundane. Why? Subhuti, this is because whatever deeds the Tathagata does, the incarnation will also do.

Having completely perfected the six perfections and so forth, and having manifestly and completely awakened to unsurpassed and perfect enlightenment, turning the wheel of Dharma, and benefiting sentient beings in various ways, it is shown that there is no difference between these two. The question, "Venerable Lord, if the Tathagata does not remain, will the emanation perform these deeds?" is asked because the Tathagata has passed into nirvana, in order to distinguish the occasion for showing the emanation benefiting sentient beings. The Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha Silent Wisdom, and so forth, show past examples of the Tathagata's emanation benefiting sentient beings. "The Bodhisattva was not seen" means that in the past, when the time came for the Tathagata Silent Wisdom to pass into nirvana, he did not see a Bodhisattva who could be entrusted with the excellent Dharma and who could be made to benefit sentient beings, and who was worthy of being prophesied. "The Tathagata emanated a body and completely passed into nirvana" means that if such a Bodhisattva who could be entrusted with the excellent Dharma was not seen, then the Tathagata Silent Wisdom emanated a Tathagata who was like his own body, and then the Tathagata Silent Wisdom himself passed into nirvana, which shows that doing so was also in order to prevent long-lived sentient beings from becoming arrogant, to encourage the lazy, and to benefit those sentient beings who could be tamed by the emanation. "That emanation therefore performed the deeds of a Buddha for one kalpa" means that after the Tathagata Silent Wisdom passed into nirvana, that emanation also benefited sentient beings for one kalpa in the same way as the Tathagata Silent Wisdom. "After that, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva was prophesied" means that after that emanation had benefited sentient beings for one kalpa, a Bodhisattva appeared who was worthy of being prophesied and who could be entrusted with the excellent Dharma, and the excellent Dharma was entrusted to him, and that emanation also completely passed into ni
