Such as "to train without subtraction or addition to form," etc., are taught to distinguish the occasion of teaching to train in all dharmas without arising and ceasing. The Blessed One said, "One should train in no arising and no ceasing," which means that training in no arising shows that there is no superimposition. Training in no ceasing shows that there is no defamation. The question, "Blessed One, how should one train in no arising and no ceasing?" is asked to distinguish the occasion for explaining the method of how to train in no arising and no ceasing below. The Blessed One said, "One should train in meditating or contemplating without manifestly fabricating formations," which means meditating for the sake of generating formations and not manifestly fabricating them; and for the sake of destroying formations and making them non-existent. It is shown that one should train in not manifestly fabricating, and "contemplating" means destroying and refuting. The question, "Blessed One, how should one train in what is not manifestly fabricated?" is asked to explain in detail the meaning of what was briefly said above, that one should train in not manifestly fabricating for the sake of generating or destroying formations. The Blessed One said, "By seeing that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, one should train in not manifestly fabricating," which means that in ultimate truth, since all dharmas are empty of their own nature, one should realize that there is nothing to be generated or destroyed, and thus train in not manifestly fabricating. The question, "Blessed One, how should one see that all dharmas are empty of their own nature?" is asked to inquire about the method of how to realize that all dharmas are empty of their own nature in ultimate truth. The Blessed One said, "One should see form as empty of form," etc., which means seeing that all dharmas, such as form, are not truly existent in ultimate truth as their respective characteristics of pervasive calculation appear and are proclaimed. Therefore, all dharmas are empty of their own nature.

This is the teaching on how to learn. The question is asked, "Lord, if it is like that, like 'form is empty of form,' and so on, if all phenomena are empty of their own nature and there is nothing, then what is there for a Bodhisattva to practice?" This is asked in the form of a question. Subhuti, "no practice" means that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, which means that in reality, all phenomena are unobtainable, so not practicing anything is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. If one practices with perception and characteristics, then it is not practicing the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom. The question is asked, "Lord, why is 'no practice' practicing the Perfection of Wisdom?" This question is asked to clarify the meaning of unobtainability. The Lord Buddha taught: Subhuti, this is because one does not cling to the Perfection of Wisdom, and so on, which indicates the Perfection of Wisdom that is practiced, and the Bodhisattva who practices, and by what method they practice, none of these are clung to. Like this, realization is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. "Who practices" refers to the Bodhisattva. "By what does one practice" refers to by what method one practices. "What does one practice" refers to practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Subhuti, not clinging to all elaborations, that is the "no practice" of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, it is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, which means that for who practices, what one practices, and the elaborations of realization, all of these do not arise, do not change, and that is the meaning of practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. The question is asked, "Lord, if 'no practice' is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, then how should a novice Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom?" This means that if not clinging to anything and not practicing anything like this is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, then a novice
