How long should one practice to be considered practicing the Perfection of Wisdom? This is asked to clarify that very point. From the arising of the initial mind of enlightenment until approaching the Bodhi tree, one should practice the Perfection of Wisdom. This means that from the arising of the initial mind of enlightenment in the stage of aspiring faith, until the first ground, one should practice with effort and with signs. After that, from the first ground to the seventh ground, one should manifest with effort and without signs. After that, from the eighth ground to the Buddha ground, there is neither effort nor signs, but one should meditate in a spontaneously accomplished manner. This is what is being taught. The question, "Venerable Lord, how should one practice without interruption of the mind stream?" means, in this way, from the arising of the initial mind of enlightenment until approaching the Bodhi tree, if one practices, manifests, and meditates, how should one do it without interruption of the mind? "By not opening opportunities for other objects of attention" means that one should practice by not opening opportunities for other objects of attention that are not omniscience. To clarify that very point, it is said that by not abandoning the object of attention of omniscience, one should practice the Perfection of Wisdom. In any case, one should practice in such a way that the mind and mental factors do not wander. This means that by not opening opportunities for other objects of attention, one is teaching the method of practice, which is to practice, manifest, and meditate on the Perfection of Wisdom in such a way that the thoughts of mind and mental factors do not arise. The question, "Venerable Lord, if..." and so on, is asking whether one will attain omniscience if one practices, manifests, and meditates on the Perfection of Wisdom with effort and with signs. "That is not so" means that if one practices, manifests, and meditates on the Perfection of Wisdom with effort and with signs, all
