Not done, both are of one taste in emptiness, because of equality, this Bodhisattva's Prajnaparamita does not abide in this shore, the other shore, or in the middle of both. Question: Blessed One, if a son or daughter of a bodhisattva vehicle, with unskilled means, contemplates this Prajnaparamita in a clinging manner, it is abandoning Prajnaparamita, and distancing oneself from Prajnaparamita. As it is said, it is to show that this Prajnaparamita is profound and difficult to believe by showing clinging and non-clinging, and for the purpose of distinguishing these sections, Subhuti asks: If one contemplates and knows the extremely pure and unconditioned, signless Prajnaparamita in a clinging manner, then that is slandering Prajnaparamita and making it meaningless, and because it contradicts the meaning of Prajnaparamita, it is distancing oneself from Prajnaparamita. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so, Subhuti, well said, well said. Subhuti, that is also clinging to name, and also clinging to sign. As it is said, it is to praise what Subhuti said above, that if one contemplates in a clinging manner, then one is abandoning and distancing oneself from Prajnaparamita, and after praising thus, it shows that if one contemplates in a clinging manner, then one will grasp names and signs in all dharmas and also become the fault of clinging. Question: Blessed One, how is it clinging to name and clinging to sign? As it is said, it is to ask in order to explain in detail the meaning of grasping names and signs and clinging, which was briefly explained above. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a son or daughter of a bodhisattva vehicle, if they grasp the name of Prajnaparamita or grasp its sign, and so on, they become arrogant with Prajnaparamita, and because of clinging to Prajnaparamita,

will cause accumulation and abandon the Perfection of Wisdom. If one understands the Perfection of Wisdom in a way that clings to it, because one grasps at names and characteristics, it is inconsistent with the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom, so it is shown that one will cause accumulation and abandon it. And, if one thinks that grasping at names and characteristics is correct, and that others are wrong, and becomes arrogant and conceited, it is also shown that one will cause accumulation and abandon the Perfection of Wisdom. Subhuti asked: "Bhagavan, it is very wonderful that there are also attachments and non-attachments to this Perfection of Wisdom, which is so well explained and well shown to the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas." This is because Subhuti asked in order to distinguish the characteristics of attachment and non-attachment, which will be explained in detail below. If we combine it with the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom, attachment and non-attachment are also inexpressible in the ultimate sense, but in the conventional sense, it is very wonderful to separate and say, "These are attachments, and these are non-attachments," and it is well said. Then, the venerable Saradvatiputra said this to the venerable Subhuti, from "If one understands that all-knowingness is emptiness, it is attachment" to the point where Sariputra asked Subhuti what the characteristics of attachment and non-attachment are. If one understands that the dharmas from form, etc., up to all-knowingness are empty in a way that is attached and has characteristics, then one is also attached to the extreme of emptiness. The venerable Saradvatiputra, furthermore, if a son or daughter of a Bodhisattva vehicle family, because of unskilled means, if he understands that past dharmas are past dharmas, it is attachment, until "If he practices in all-knowingness, it is attachment," which refers to grasping at the dharmas of the three times as existing in a way that is attached, and to the six perfections, etc., of all-knowingness.

In between, if one practices with attachment to pure dharmas and with characteristics, then one is attached to the extreme of existence, which is what is to be shown. Shariputra, if anyone says, "What is it that bodhisattvas, great beings, who practice in the Perfection of Wisdom, are without attachment?" From "is" to "Shariputra, those bodhisattvas, great beings, are skillful in means, and are without attachment when they practice in the Perfection of Wisdom," is not grasping at characteristics in the manner of focusing on the five aggregates and the three times, and combining the six perfections and other bodhisattva practices with the eighteen emptinesses. Because of focusing on these, one does not grasp at characteristics, and practicing with the three spheres completely pure is without attachment, which is what is to be shown. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said this to the venerable Subhuti, from "is" to "If one becomes attached to those attachments, one cannot practice in the Perfection of Wisdom without attachment," in order to show in detail to the retinue in another way the meaning of the characteristics of attachment to the extremes of existence and non-existence mentioned above, Indra asked Subhuti about the characteristics of attachment, and Subhuti said that even if one understands with attachment to all pure dharmas, such as the mind of enlightenment and the six perfections, and with characteristics, this is the attachment of a bodhisattva. If one becomes attached in this way, it is not in accordance with the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom, and therefore one cannot practice in the Perfection of Wisdom without attachment, which shows the faults of attachment. Why is that? Because, Kaushika, one cannot completely dedicate the nature of form, from "is" to "one cannot completely dedicate the nature of all-knowingness," this shows the reason why dedication with attachment and with conception is unreasonable. Because the dharmas from form, etc., up to all-knowingness are empty of nature in ultimate truth, empty
