Therefore, since it was proclaimed that in the ultimate sense, no Dharma whatsoever can be attained, Indra was delighted, and in order to make the retinue also rejoice and generate faith, he praised the Prajñāpāramitā, saying, "Such a thing is most wondrous." Then, from the statement of the venerable Subhuti addressing the Blessed One, up to "That is to distance oneself from the Prajñāpāramitā," it means that if one conceives of the Prajñāpāramitā as something real that obtains all Dharmas and discriminates accordingly, or if one conceives of the Prajñāpāramitā as something real that does not obtain all Dharmas and discriminates accordingly, then, by clinging to the two extremes of obtaining and not obtaining, one contradicts the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā. Therefore, one abandons and distances oneself from the Prajñāpāramitā, which is what is to be explained. The Blessed One declared: "Subhuti, by what means," and so on, up to "It is a means of distancing oneself from the Prajñāpāramitā," which means that merely clinging to and discriminating between the two extremes of obtaining and not obtaining is not only abandoning and distancing oneself from the Prajñāpāramitā, but also because the Prajñāpāramitā shows that all Dharmas are without substance and are entirely empty. Therefore, if one thinks that the Prajñāpāramitā is hollow and without essence, and discriminates in this way, one also abandons and distances oneself from the Prajñāpāramitā, which is what is to be explained. He asked: "Blessed One, by having faith in the Prajñāpāramitā, in what Dharma will one have faith?" From this point, because all Dharmas, such as form, are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, Subhuti inquired of the Blessed One in order to initiate a detailed explanation to the retinue that one should not have faith in things that exist. The Blessed One declared: "Subhuti, by having faith in the Prajñāpāramitā, one will not have faith in form," and so on, up to "One will not have faith in omniscience itself," which means that if one understands the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā and has faith that all Dharmas are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, then one will not have faith in form, and so on.

Therefore, it is shown that until one reaches the state of complete omniscience, one will not cling to the belief that all phenomena have inherent existence. The question is: "Bhagavan, how is it that by having faith in the Perfection of Wisdom, one does not have faith in form, and so on, up to not having faith in complete omniscience?" This is because, in order to explain in detail the meaning of not fixating on all phenomena from form, and so on, up to complete omniscience, Subhuti asks the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan replies: "Subhuti, by not fixating on form, one will have faith in the Perfection of Wisdom. Thus, by having faith in the Perfection of Wisdom, one will not have faith in form, and so on, up to having faith in the Perfection of Wisdom, one will not have faith in complete omniscience." This is because one realizes that all phenomena, such as form, are ultimately empty of inherent existence. If one does not fixate on any of them as having inherent existence and does not cling to their characteristics, then one will realize the profound meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom and develop faith. If one realizes the profound meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom and develops faith in this way, then one will not believe that all phenomena, from form, and so on, up to complete omniscience, have inherent existence. The question is: "Bhagavan, in this way, this Perfection of Wisdom is the Great Perfection, because even when all phenomena such as form are completely pure, one does not discriminate that it is good and great; and when it is not completely pure, one does not discriminate that it is bad and small. Thus, without discriminating self-arisen qualities and because of its great qualities, it is praised as the Great Perfection." The Bhagavan replies: "Subhuti, what do you think? By what reason is this Perfection of Wisdom said to be the Great Perfection?" This is asking for the reason why it is the Great Perfection. The question is: "One does not make form great, one does not make it small..."
