And, from "rejoicing in the roots of virtue of the Buddhas who have not yet appeared and those who have appeared now," to "one should not train with the thought that those roots of virtue will be dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment," dedicating the roots of virtue with a focus and with characteristics in the manner described above becomes a fault. Therefore, how should one rejoice and dedicate to the roots of virtue accumulated by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who abide in the ten directions of the world in the three times? One should not train to dedicate with a focus and with characteristics, thinking that those roots of virtue will be dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti said: Maitreya, if a son or daughter of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle practices the Perfection of Wisdom, wishing not to slander the Tathagata, one should dedicate in this way, from "one should dedicate in this way" to "the dedication of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices in this way will be without poison and will reach the other shore of nectar," it teaches the method of purifying the dedication of the roots of virtue. The method is that the Tathagatas understand that the roots of virtue of unsurpassed wisdom are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, but in the conventional sense, they dedicate without attachment through skillful means. I too should dedicate in the same way. If one dedicates by taking the Tathagata as the standard, the dedication will become completely pure. What is the nature of those roots of virtue, what is their essence, and what are their characteristics? "What is their essence" is a synonym for "what are their characteristics." Although they have no essence in the ultimate sense, one should understand how the result of dedication will be obtained in the conventional sense. "In the same way that it exists by what dharma nature" means that in the ultimate sense, it is the dharma nature of emptiness.

Therefore, one should rejoice in the fact that how one dedicates in a conventional way leads to the attainment of results, and that it has such a nature. The so-called "complete dedication will become non-toxic and reach the ultimate of nectar," where "nectar" refers to nirvana. If one dedicates completely in this way, because the dedication is without fault, one will attain nirvana, that is its meaning. Furthermore, when a son or daughter of a bodhisattva lineage practices prajnaparamita, they should completely dedicate all roots of virtue in this way, from "all roots of virtue should be dedicated in this way" to "those pratyekabuddhas are also not included. Those roots of virtue of theirs are also not included, and whatever is not included is not past, not future, and not present," until the point where form and so on always abide in equanimity. Because all dharmas are without substance in the ultimate sense, they do not exist in any of the three realms, nor do they belong to any of the three times. Similarly, one should know that the dedication, as well as the unsurpassed bodhi to be dedicated to, and the roots of virtue to be dedicated, and the Buddha Bhagavan who performed the roots of virtue, and the shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, also do not exist in any of the three realms in the ultimate sense, nor do they belong to any of the three times. If one dedicates in this way, the dedication is completely pure, this is what is to be explained. If a bodhisattva mahasattva practices prajnaparamita, from "if a bodhisattva mahasattva practices prajnaparamita" to "if one knows in this way, the dedication of the bodhisattva mahasattva is non-toxic, and will reach the ultimate of nectar," until the point where form and so on always abide in equanimity, through these, all those dharmas, as mentioned above, are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, so they do not exist in any of the three realms, nor do they belong to any of the three times. It elaborates in detail the reasons why all these cannot be dedicated in the form of characteristics or objects of focus. Why is that? Because there is no inherent existence there, that is, it is not in any of the three realms, nor does it belong to any of the three times.

Therefore, this shows that each does not have its own self-nature. Whatever does not have self-nature is without substance, that is to say, like this without its own self-nature, then ultimately there is no common self-nature either, because it is not established as a substance. Without substance, one cannot dedicate with no substance, that is to say, just as what is to be dedicated is without substance, so too the one who dedicates is also without substance, it is not possible to dedicate nothing with nothing, this is what is to be shown, and everything should be understood in the same way. If a son or daughter of a bodhisattva lineage dedicates those roots of virtue in the form of signs or in the form of objects of focus, then that is a perverse dedication, not a true dedication, and will not perfect the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. That is to say, like this, all dharmas are empty of self-nature and without substance, but one clings to them as having substance, and dedicates them in the form of signs, that is a perverse dedication, therefore the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, will not praise it either, and such a dedication that is not praised will not perfect the six perfections and so on, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, and will not perfect the pure dharmas, because it cannot perfect one's own benefit, it is like eating poisonous food, this is what is to be shown. From "By what does the perfection of generosity not become complete?" to "Why is that? Because such a dedication is poisonous," it is said that if the six perfections and so on, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, are not perfected, then one cannot purify the Buddha-field, nor can one ripen sentient beings, this shows the fault of not being able to perfect the benefit of others. Furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Prajnaparamita, up to, I also attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through the nature of Dharma.
