"Now" is a word that indicates time. "The dharmata of dharmas should not be disturbed," etc., indicates that one should not contradict the dharmata. That is to say, for the dharmas from the six paramitas, etc., up to the omniscient, if one distinguishes and discriminates the individual characteristics of those dharmas and the emptiness, suchness, which is the dharmata of those dharmas, then the dharmata will be disturbed, and one should not do that. Question: Blessed One, if it is the case that the dharmata of dharmas should not be disturbed in this way, etc. In this way, if one speculates and distinguishes the characteristics of dharmas and the dharmata of dharmas, then the dharmata will be disturbed and contradict the dharmata. Blessed One, you have separately explained the characteristics of dharmas such as form, etc., up to the omniscient, haven't you disturbed the dharmata of dharmas? This is a question based on assumption. The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, it is not so, etc. The Blessed One explained the dharmas separately in this way in order to make sentient beings understand, and only mentioned the names and signs, but there is no speculation or attachment to it, so the dharmata has not been disturbed. Question: Blessed One, if it is for the sake of making others understand, etc., all dharmas are empty of self-nature in the ultimate truth, and what is the use of indicating things that have no name and sign with names and signs? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, speech is neither a name, nor a sign, nor an attachment, which is only to indicate with the names and signs that sentient beings are familiar with in order to make sentient beings understand, and there is no fault because there is no grasping of names and signs as real things. Subhuti, on the other hand, it is only to speak of suffering, and there is no attachment to names and signs, that is to say, in this way, the dharmas are indicated to sentient beings by names and signs.

Furthermore, it is taught solely for the purpose of making beings understand the suffering of samsara, and there is no clinging to it as a real entity, nor is there a lack of clinging. This is what is being shown. Subhuti, the Tathagata or the Shravakas of the Tathagata do not become attached to names and signs, etc., which indicates that there is no place for attachment and it is impossible to be attached. Even emptiness does not become attached to emptiness, etc., which shows an example of the impossibility of attachment, that is, both the object to be attached to and the subject that attaches are without substance in the ultimate sense. This is the concluding statement. The request is made: "Bhagavan, if all these conditioned things are merely names and signs, etc., then since all dharmas are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense, and there is no entity, then both the object to be accomplished and the subject that accomplishes are also without inherent existence. For what purpose does a Bodhisattva generate the mind of enlightenment and practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva?" This is asked with a sense of importance. The Bhagavan replied: "Subhuti, as you said, 'If all conditioned things are merely names and signs,' etc." The Bhagavan repeated the words of Subhuti's question and gave an answer, stating that in the ultimate sense, all dharmas are empty of inherent existence and without substance, but sentient beings cling to them as real entities and act accordingly. Therefore, in order to guide them, the conduct of a Bodhisattva is also practiced in the conventional sense, and even omniscience is attained, and then the wheel of Dharma is turned, etc., doing the deeds for the benefit of sentient beings. This is what is being shown. The request is made: "Bhagavan, do you speak of omniscience?" Since all dharmas are empty of inherent existence and there are no names and signs, then what is said to be omniscience, and what can be established? This is the question being asked. The Bhagavan replied: "Subhuti, omniscience, I speak of 'omniscience.'" This means that in the ultimate sense, all dharmas are also empty of inherent existence, and names and signs cannot be established or spoken of, but in the conventional sense, it is spoken for the sake of guiding sentient beings.

This is how it is taught. The question, "Venerable Lord, what the Tathagata has said as 'the nature of all knowledge,'" etc., is asked in order to explain in detail what the difference is between "the nature of all knowledge," "the nature of knowing the aspects of the path," and "the nature of knowing all aspects." The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, what is called 'the nature of all knowledge' is for the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas," etc. This is a brief explanation of the three kinds of all knowledge. The question, "Venerable Lord, for what reason do we say 'the nature of all knowledge' to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas?" etc., is asked in order to explain in detail the three kinds of sutras mentioned above, that is, to explain them in detail with reasoning. The Blessed One said, "As many external and internal dharmas as there are, all are known by the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas." This means that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas enter through the gate of the four truths and know all external and internal dharmas, such as the aggregates and elements. "All compounded things are impermanent," "All contaminated things are suffering," "All dharmas are without self." Knowing all dharmas in these three ways is called the nature of all knowledge. The statement, "It is not all paths," means that Bodhisattvas abide in the ten bhumis of the Bodhisattva path and do not know all dharmas in the same way. Subhuti, all paths should be practiced by Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, etc. This is to explain what the nature of knowing the aspects of the path is for Bodhisattvas. That is, from the first arising of Bodhicitta, from the stage of adhimukticarya to the complete fulfillment of the ten bhumis, through the order of purifying the suchness of the path of seeing and the path of meditation, it becomes the cause for attaining unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, and the wisdom that leads to the state of all-aspect knowledge also knows all the paths of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but does not realize their true limits. This is called the nature of knowing the aspects of the path. This is its definition. Venerable Lord,
