Realizing that the Thus Come One was also teaching the profound meaning of wisdom in this place, the venerable Subhūti said: "My explanation that all dharmas are nominal designations is not contradictory to the teaching of the nature of dharmas. It is indeed so, just like that. In this way, my explanation that all dharmas are merely nominal designations, while also teaching the nature of dharmas, is not something I fabricated myself. It is because the Blessed One Buddha also teaches that all dharmas are merely nominal designations." Kauśika, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva should also understand that all dharmas are merely nominal designations in this way, and should train in the Prajñāpāramitā. This is teaching the method of how to train in the Prajñāpāramitā: In the ultimate truth, all dharmas are without inherent existence, but in the conventional truth, all dharmas are merely nominal designations used in the world. One should understand this. One should not regard these dharmas as real, and one should not be attached to them, but should train in the Prajñāpāramitā. Kauśika, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva who trains in this way is not training in form. Why is that? Because he cannot truly see the form that should be trained in. In this way, after understanding that all dharmas are merely nominal designations, the Bodhisattva who trains in the Prajñāpāramitā, for all dharmas such as form, up to and including all-knowingness, realizes that all dharmas are without inherent existence in the ultimate truth. Because he cannot truly see real things, he does not train in dharmas such as form by clinging to them as real. This is what it means to train in the Prajñāpāramitā. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the venerable Subhūti: "Venerable Subhūti, why does a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva not truly see form?" etc. This is asking for the reason why one cannot truly see all dharmas such as form, up to and including all-knowingness. Subhūti replied: "Kauśika, it is because form is empty of form." etc. This refers to all dharmas such as form, up to and including all-knowingness.

It is shown that because the dharmas in between are truly empty of nature, those dharmas are not truly seen afterwards. Kausika! "By the emptiness of form, the emptiness of form is not truly seen afterwards," and so on, it is shown that both form and so on, which are to be seen, are not truly seen afterwards because they are empty of nature. Kausika! "Thus, whoever does not study this emptiness, studies emptiness because emptiness is non-dual," it is shown that thus, all dharmas such as form are the nature of emptiness, and because they are not truly seen afterwards in the ultimate sense, not studying in the manner of grasping at things is studying the nature of emptiness in the ultimate sense. "They study the emptiness of form without making it into two," and so on, it is shown that looking at form and so on, all the way up to all-knowingness, as having characteristics and entities, and not studying, is studying the emptiness of form and so on. Kausika! "Whoever studies the emptiness of form without making it into two," and so on, it is shown that thus, whoever studies the emptiness of all dharmas such as form, all the way up to all-knowingness, without making it into two, studies all the purified dharmas from the six perfections and so on, all the way up to all-knowingness, without making them into two and with the three circles completely pure. From "Whoever studies the perfection of giving without making it into two" to "He studies the countless and immeasurable Buddha dharmas without making them into two," it is shown that thus, for the dharmas from the six perfections and so on, all the way up to all-knowingness, whoever studies without making them into two, it is shown that this is the benefit, that is, if the dharmas spoken of by name such as giving are studied without making them into two, then one will also study the other great, immeasurable, and countless Buddha dharmas, that is, it is shown that one will realize those great dharmas.
