What is to be done is this: each of the thirty-two major marks of a Tathagata great being arises from the cause of a great accumulation of merit; may I also obtain such marks. It is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this. From "How vast is the world in the eastern direction, as many as the sands of the Ganges River?" to "In as many limits as the world in the northwest direction, as many as the sands of the Ganges River, I have accomplished one Buddha-field," it is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this, thinking, "May I accomplish such a vast Buddha-field." By saying, "May my three-thousand great-thousand world systems be made of the essence of a vajra," it is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this, thinking, "May my Buddha-field not be disturbed by Mara and the first obstacles, and may it not be destroyed." May the fragrance from my Bodhi tree, no matter which sentient beings perceive it, be free from the harm of desire, hatred, and delusion. It is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this, thinking, "When I attain complete enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, may the fragrant scent of incense arise from the Bodhi tree, and may those sentient beings who perceive that scent be free from the harm of afflictions such as desire, and may they possess the potential for enlightenment." This is merely a conventional aspiration and dedication, but in reality, it is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this. May they not generate the mind of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. It is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on this, thinking, "May those sentient beings who perceive the scent of the Bodhi tree not generate the mind of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha." It is taught that one should not abide in a state of focusing on such an aspiration. May all of them be certain

One should not abide in the manner of "may it become," which means that for all those beings who smell the fragrance of the Bodhi tree, may they definitely attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and one should not abide in this aspiration in the manner of focusing on it. One should not abide in the manner of "may those beings who smell the fragrance of the Bodhi tree have no diseases in their body or mind," which means that when I manifest enlightenment, may those beings who smell the fragrance of the Bodhi tree have no diseases in their body and mind, and one should not abide in this aspiration in the manner of ultimate reality. One should not abide in the manner of "in my Buddha-field, may there be no sound of form," from this to "may there be no sound of Buddha," it means that in the Buddha-field where I manifest enlightenment, in the ultimate reality, from the five aggregates and so on up to the Buddha, for worldly and transworldly phenomena, by way of clinging to characteristics, sound should not exist, and one should not abide in this aspiration in the manner of focusing on it. Why is that? Because the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly and Completely Awakened One, when manifesting unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, does not focus on any phenomena. This means that the reason for not abiding in the manner of focusing on all phenomena as mentioned above is: if some of the worldly and transworldly phenomena were real and could be focused on, then it would be reasonable to focus on them, but when the Tathagata manifests unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, in the ultimate reality, no phenomena are real and can be focused on, therefore it is said that one should not abide in the manner of focusing on them. Kausika, thus should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom.
