Because the minds of beings, the minds of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and the mind of the Blessed One, the Buddha, are empty of inherent existence. Just as there is no outflow and no attainment, so too, all phenomena from form and so on up to all-knowingness are also without outflow and without attainment because in reality they are empty of inherent existence. Thus it is taught. Subhuti said: O son of Sharadvati, just as you have said, form is also without outflow and without attainment because it is empty of inherent existence, and so on up to all-knowingness is also without outflow and without attainment because it is empty of inherent existence. Just as Shariputra has said, in reality, all phenomena of the world and beyond the world are without outflow and without attainment because they are empty of inherent existence. Thus, Subhuti taught in agreement with Shariputra. He said: O venerable Subhuti, what you have said, that because there is no mind, the mind is also without attachment, is indeed so. O venerable Subhuti, not only that, but because the mind is without nature, it is without attachment to anything, not only that, but also the absence of form and so on is without attachment to form and so on, thus it is taught. Here, the term 'no mind' means that there is no imputed mind on the mind of the nature of reality, which is the perfectly established characteristic, therefore it is called 'no mind'. The absence of form is also without attachment to form, and the term 'absence of form' means that there is no imputed form on the form of the nature of reality, which is the perfectly established characteristic, therefore it is called 'absence of form'. Thus it is taught that the nature of the perfectly established is without form, and it is without attachment to the imputed form. Similarly, the worldly phenomena from feeling and so on up to old age and death, and the phenomena beyond the world from the perfection of generosity and so on up to all-knowingness, should also be applied in the same way. He said: O son of Sharadvati, it is so.
