Moreover, one does not fall and does not attain the first bodhisattva ground, but remains in the intermediate state. This is called a great fault of the bodhisattva. Therefore, if someone asks what it means to fall into a great fault, the answer is: When a bodhisattva mahasattva is unskilled in means and practices the six perfections, etc. Therefore, the so-called craving for Dharma is to cling to the characteristics of all dharmas. In order to clearly explain this, (the sutra) says, "To be manifestly attached to and abide in the emptiness of form, and to recognize," and so on. That is to say, to be manifestly attached to and abide in the "unwishing consciousness," and to recognize that "this venerable Shariputra is a bodhisattva mahasattva who craves for the Dharma of the unfavorable category, and becomes a fault," and so on. Up to this point, (it explains) that when contemplating and meditating on the five aggregates of form, etc., as emptiness, impermanence, suffering, selflessness, etc., because one clings to reality and characteristics and meditates, it is called craving for Dharma. Because one does not cling to permanence, etc., in a reversed way, it is called conforming. It is reasonable for a bodhisattva not to cling to the characteristics of any Dharma and to act from the perspective of the three wheels being pure, but clinging to reality and characteristics becomes a fault, that is its meaning. There are three kinds of faults of a bodhisattva: reversed view, reversed mind, and reversed cognition. Among them, the so-called "manifest attachment" is the reversed view. The so-called "abiding" is the reversed mind. The so-called "cognition" is to show the reversed cognition. If it is said, "This form should be abandoned, and form should be abandoned by this," etc., until "This consciousness should be abandoned, and consciousness should be abandoned by this," it is to separate the five aggregates of form, etc., one by one, and show the fault of clinging to characteristics from the perspective of what should be abandoned. The so-called "abandoning form by this" means that the bodhisattva who abandons abandons form by this, or cultivates the noble path.

By holding onto characteristics such as "form should be abandoned," similarly, it should be applied up to consciousness. From "this suffering should be completely known," etc., to "this path should be cultivated." By "this path should be cultivated," etc., regarding the four noble truths, that is, "suffering should be known, origination should be abandoned, cessation should be realized, the path should be cultivated," etc., it is shown that clinging to characteristics will become a fault. This, as before. This is completely defiled, this is completely purified, etc., this is the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, this will become a fault, clinging and abiding in these dharmas, this thought is craving for the dharmas that are in accordance with the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, until it becomes a fault, generating the thought of what should be taken and what should be abandoned regarding dharmas, and clinging to characteristics, it is shown that it will become a fault. Among them, this is completely defiled, which refers to attachment and other things that will become the cause of samsara. This is completely purified, which refers to mindfulness and other limbs of enlightenment that will become the cause of nirvana. These dharmas should be relied upon, which refers to right view and faith and other dharmas that do not contradict the conduct of a Bodhisattva. These dharmas should not be relied upon, which refers to wrong view and disbelief and other things that contradict the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should practice, which refers to the perfection of generosity and so on. Here, one should not practice, which refers to miserliness and other things that are contrary to generosity and so on. This is the path of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the path of a Bodhisattva has two aspects, namely the path of seeing and the path of cultivation. Among them, the path of seeing is the realization of the completely pure realm of dharma as it is in the first bhumi. The path of cultivation is the same realization of the realm of dharma as it is in the second bhumi and so on.
