The Display Chapter. The so-called "mind" refers to the conventional truth of the mind of enlightenment, which is conventionally established. Because in the ultimate truth, its own nature is not established, it is said to be "not mind." The so-called "because the nature of mind is luminosity" means that it is without the defilements and obscurations of grasping and being grasped, and so on. The sutra says, "Venerable Subhuti, what is the nature of the mind that is luminosity?" From this sentence to "This is the nature of the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the son of Venerable Sharadvatiputra, that is luminosity," it is explained in detail that there are no defilements of grasping and being grasped, and that it is naturally luminous. The so-called "any mind that is neither associated with nor separated from desire" is because the suchness of the mind is naturally luminous and pure, so even in the state of ordinary beings, it is not associated with desire, and in the state of noble ones, it is not separated from desire. Because the nature of suchness is unchanging. Similarly, for the remaining afflictions such as anger and ignorance, one should also apply them accordingly. The characteristics of the three, namely desire, anger, and ignorance, as well as their arising, latent tendencies, bondage, and views, have been explained before. The two, obscuration and cutting off, have been explained before, so now I will explain them here again. Among them, the so-called "obscuration" refers to the obscuration of knowledge and the obscuration of afflictions. The so-called "cutting off" refers to the five interruptions, namely, desire for desire, malice, drowsiness, sleep, agitation, regret, and doubt. Drowsiness and sleep are counted as one, and agitation and regret are counted as one. These five interruptions are called "cutting off" because they interrupt Nirvana. The so-called "neither associated with nor separated from Hearers and Solitary Buddhas" means that it is neither associated with nor separated from the inferior mind of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. The sutra says, "Venerable Subhuti, for which mind is it said 'not mind,' does that exist?" It means that if the nature of mind is not established in the ultimate truth, then is it possible to point out what is said to be "not mind"? This is Venerable Shari

(Someone's) son asked. Subhuti replied: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, it is not so, non-mind. For non-mind, does it exist or not exist, is it observable or does it exist? The term "non-mind," the word "does it exist?" itself, from the ultimate truth, is unreasonable, therefore, does it exist or not exist, is it observable in the ultimate truth? Or does it exist? Subhuti again questioned Shariputra. He replied: Venerable Subhuti, it is not so, the so-called "exists or does not exist," from the ultimate truth, is not observable or existent. If so, for non-mind, the so-called existence or non-existence, neither exists nor is observable, then, Venerable Sharadvatiputra, you ask back like this: "For which mind is called non-mind, does that exist?" Can this be established? Shariputra's words, Subhuti repeated: Thus, in the ultimate truth, existence or non-existence is not observable, then, you ask me "The so-called non-mind, does it exist?" This is also unreasonable. He replied: Venerable Subhuti, what is non-mind? This is a discussion initiated from a question, that is, from what is the meaning of the nature of mind being unobservable in the ultimate truth. In order to explain in detail the meaning of all phenomena such as form being immutable and without discrimination, thereby distinguishing (different) occasions. The Holy Shariputra asked the Holy Subhuti. The so-called non-mind is immutable and without discrimination, meaning that, from the ultimate truth, the so-called non-mind does not refer to another existing thing of non-mind, but refers to the suchness of mind, self-luminous by nature, which does not discriminate or think about the grasper and the grasped, etc., this is called non-mind, this is what is to be revealed. This is the suchness of all phenomena, which is called no-mind, inconceivable. This is to clearly reveal the meaning mentioned above, that is, the suchness of mind, immutable, self-luminous by nature, this is inseparable from the suchness and nature of all phenomena, therefore, the suchness of all phenomena is also like this.
