Generating aspiration to abandon arisen virtuous dharmas, and generating aspiration to generate unarisen virtuous dharmas, and generating aspiration for arisen virtuous dharmas to abide, increase, not decline, and be perfected. Strive, exert effort, apply diligence, and hold the mind firmly. The perfection of the four legs of miraculous power means cultivating the leg of miraculous power that possesses the concentration of aspiration and the activity of abandoning, the leg of miraculous power that possesses the concentration of mind and the activity of abandoning, the leg of miraculous power that possesses the concentration of diligence and the activity of abandoning, and the leg of miraculous power that possesses the concentration of investigation and the activity of abandoning. Because these four concentrations are the cause, support, and basis for obtaining miraculous powers, noble qualities, and great wealth, and are like legs, they are called legs of miraculous power. The perfection of the five faculties means the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. Because one obtains the nature of uncontaminated dharma by the power of these, such as faith, they are called faculties. The perfection of the five powers means that those five faculties, such as faith, become powerful because they are not overcome by the forces of affliction due to the strength of habituation, and are therefore called the five powers. The perfection of the seven branches of enlightenment means the branch of enlightenment of mindfulness, the branch of enlightenment of discriminating dharma, the branch of enlightenment of diligence, the branch of enlightenment of joy, the branch of enlightenment of pliancy, the branch of enlightenment of concentration, and the branch of enlightenment of equanimity. At the time when one realizes the nature of dharma with the nature of enlightenment on the first ground, these, such as mindfulness, become the cause and companion, therefore called bo-

It is called a branch of enlightenment. To perfect the Noble Eightfold Path, namely: Right View, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Samadhi. From the attainment of the first bhumi to the tenth bhumi, when engaging in the path of meditation, it is called the Noble Eightfold Path because it possesses these. The cultivation of the branches of enlightenment will also be explained in detail below when the Great Vehicle is taught. Because the nature of right abandonment and so on is the nature of non-entity, right abandonment and so on should be fully understood as the nature of having no object of focus, and abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom. It is said that the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment are thus perfected. The so-called perfection of the samadhi of emptiness means that the three doors of liberation are in accordance with the cultivation of the aspects of enlightenment, and because it leads to the attainment of nirvana, it is counted among the aspects of enlightenment themselves. Here, because it belongs to the context of the Bodhisattva, it is referred to as the three samadhis. Among them, the so-called samadhi of emptiness, its perfectly accomplished aspect is: empty of the characteristic of complete imputation, empty of that aspect of complete imputation. Thus, if one meditates on the aspect of emptiness, and the mind becomes one-pointed, it is called the samadhi of emptiness. That inexpressible ultimate truth, like the sky, is separated from all characteristics such as form, the characteristic of no sign, all elaborations are pacified, so if one meditates on the aspect of peace, and the mind becomes one-pointed, it is called the signless samadhi. Similarly, seeing the three realms as the aspect of the nature of non-entity, having established the perception of disagreement with all dharmas, and later not making it a place of longing, truly following and seeing, when the mind becomes one-pointed, it is called the wishless samadhi. Thus, having shown the practice of the aspects of enlightenment without afflictions, that is the middle

In order to show the practice of continuously maturing all sentient beings, it is said, "In order to have objectless meditation, one should perfect the four meditations," and so on. The maturing of all sentient beings must also be accomplished through worldly and transmundane meditation and samadhi, as well as through the aspects of clairvoyance and wisdom. Therefore, all three aspects of the Dharma are gathered there. In this regard, all the dharmas such as meditation are first held in a conventional way in order to benefit sentient beings. Later, if one thoroughly examines them in the ultimate sense, one will not be attached to the nature of meditation and so on. Instead, with compassion and skillful means, one again focuses on the conventional and benefits sentient beings, thus establishing the practice of maturing all sentient beings. The four meditations are the first, second, third, and fourth meditations of the form realm. Among these meditations, the first meditation has both investigation and analysis. The second meditation is without investigation but only with analysis. The third and fourth meditations are without both investigation and analysis. These meditations are practiced by worldly people with attachment to self. Hearers and solitary realizers practice them after realizing the selflessness of the person. Bodhisattvas practice them after realizing the selflessness of both phenomena and the person. Although meditation is objectless in the ultimate sense, in the conventional sense, one practices according to their respective characteristics by the power of compassion and skillful means. "One should perfect the four immeasurables" refers to loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Bodhisattvas also practice these four in three ways. What are the three? They are practicing with sentient beings as the object, practicing with phenomena as the object, and practicing without an object. "One should perfect the four formless absorptions" refers to the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception.
