This is the ninth example of non-abiding in the unproduced, etc., which are separately stated. Subhuti, for example, in a form that is extremely pure, there is no place for characteristics. Subhuti, for example, in the wisdom of liberation seen by the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, there is no place where the wisdom of liberation is not seen. Subhuti, similarly, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, the meaning of the word Bodhisattva does not exist, up to the five aggregates such as form, the twelve sense bases, the eighteen realms, the six contacts, the six feelings arising from contact, the six elements such as the earth element, the twelve links of dependent origination, the six perfections, the eighteen emptinesses, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the four noble truths, the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless

The four entries, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, the three doors of liberation, the six superknowledges, the various samādhis, the various dhāraṇī doors, the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and the self conceived by non-Buddhists, spoken of by name, these in ultimate truth, actually have no entity and are extremely pure, the example of having no place for signs; like when the sun rises, there is no place for darkness; when the fire of the eon burns, there is no place for plants and so on to grow; the Tathāgata's discipline, samādhi, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the knowledge of liberation, these have no dissimilar aspects, by the example of this, it is shown that the meaning of the words of a Bodhisattva is nonexistent. This is the example of purity, the tenth. Subhūti, for example, the light of the sun and moon has no place, from here, Subhūti, for example, the light of the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly complete Buddhas has no place. Subhūti, similarly, when a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva practices in the Perfection of Wisdom, the meaning of the words of a Bodhisattva is nonexistent, until here, the light of the sun, moon, planets, stars, precious jewels, and lightning has no place, and the light of the gods of the desire realm and the gods of the form realm has no place, and by the example of the light of the Bodhisattvas and the Tathāgata having no place, it is shown that the meaning of the words of a Bodhisattva is nonexistent. This is the example of light having no place, the eleventh. Why is that? Subhūti, for example, whatever is enlightenment, and whatever is the meaning of the words of a Bodhisattva, all those dharmas are neither concordant nor discordant, from here, all dharmas should also be known by a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, until here, it is shown that the reason for the meaning of the words of a Bodhisattva being nonexistent. All those dharmas are also concordant.

Furthermore, "neither existent nor non-existent" refers to bodhisattvas and those dharmas called "meaning of words." Because they are empty of inherent existence in ultimate reality, they are not of the nature of complete defilement, and therefore are not existent. Because they are not of the nature of complete purification, they are also not non-existent; this is its meaning. "Without form" means that it is not an object apprehended by eye consciousness and so forth; this is what is to be shown. "Indemonstrable" means that it is not an object that can be indicated or expressed by words, and therefore it is not of the nature of an apprehender; this is its meaning. "Unobstructed" means that it is not of the nature of being obstructed like objects and faculties; this is what is to be shown. Thus, "without characteristics, but of a single characteristic" means that the nature that is separated from all characteristics is of one taste in emptiness; this is its meaning. Subhuti, a bodhisattva mahasattva should train in the non-existence of all dharmas in reality; this means that in the manner described above, one should listen to the fact that all dharmas are not truly existent in ultimate reality, and train with the wisdom of thought; this is what is to be shown. A bodhisattva mahasattva should also understand all dharmas; this means that in this way, one should realize through the wisdom of meditating on the fact that all dharmas are not truly existent in ultimate reality; this is what is to be shown. Request: Blessed One, what are all dharmas? Blessed One, how should a bodhisattva mahasattva train in the non-existence of reality, and so forth? This means that, as mentioned above, one should train in the non-existence of all dharmas in reality. The Blessed One taught that one should understand all dharmas. Among the retinue, some doubted what was meant by all dharmas, some doubted how to train in those non-existent dharmas, and some doubted how to understand those dharmas. In order to dispel these doubts, Subhuti asked the Blessed One: What are all dharmas? How should one train in the non-existence of all dharmas? How should one understand all dharmas? The Blessed One said that all dharmas refer to virtue, non-virtue, and the unspecified.
