If someone thinks that by practicing in this way, one will arise and be able to attain omniscience, but that this is impossible. In order to explain the reason in detail to the disciples and dispel their doubts, if a magical person learns from the Prajnaparamita to the Buddha's unshared dharmas, will that magical person attain omniscience? Will that magical person obtain omniscience? If someone asks this question, how should we answer it? They made this request. After saying this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, therefore, you should answer this question yourself. You should explain it according to your understanding. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Is Bodhi different, and is illusion also different? He replied: Blessed One, it is not like that. Until all dharmas are learned in an invisible way, one cannot attain omniscience. What was said earlier was only explained in conventional truth. But in ultimate truth, the dharmas to be learned, the learner, and omniscience, do not have substantial existence, so they are the same in emptiness. Considering that they are similar to the nature of illusion, the Blessed One asked Subhuti, from form and so on up to the Buddha's unshared dharmas and Bodhi, are worldly and transworldly dharmas also different, and is illusion also different? Blessed One, form is not different, and illusion is not different, form itself is illusion, and illusion itself is form. Until Blessed One, omniscience is not different, and illusion is not different, omniscience itself is illusion, and illusion itself is omniscience. This is Subhuti's answer to the Blessed One's question, explaining that all these dharmas are similar to illusion. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Does illusion have arising or ceasing?

Beginning with "knowing." Why is that? World Honored One, it is because these five aggregates are by nature without substance. That nature of being without substance is without an object of focus. And so forth, up to the point where all phenomena are without substance in the ultimate sense. Like an illusion, there is no birth, no cessation, no complete defilement, and no complete purification. Therefore, because there is no substance, in the ultimate sense, one will engage in learning the Prajnaparamita, and it will come to manifest as the state of omniscience, and there will also be no attainment of the state of omniscience. Furthermore, in the ultimate sense, there is no way to designate the term "Bodhisattva" with respect to the five aggregates of appropriation, whether in terms of conventions, terminology, or anything else. Therefore, since there is no way to designate the term "Bodhisattva" in terms of conventions, terminology, or anything else, and since there is neither complete defilement nor complete purification, in the ultimate sense, one will engage in learning the Prajnaparamita, and it will come to manifest as the state of omniscience, and there will also be no attainment of the state of omniscience. This is what is to be elucidated. The World Honored One declared: Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having trained in the Prajnaparamita, will manifest as the state of omniscience through the mode of non-apprehension. The statement that one will attain the state of omniscience means that, although in the ultimate sense all phenomena are ascertained to be without substance, if one trains in the Prajnaparamita through the mode of non-apprehension, then in the conventional sense, it is not the case that one will not manifest as the state of omniscience, or that one will not attain the state of omniscience. That is the meaning. He requested: I understand the meaning of what the World Honored One has said, and so forth. This is a summary and explanation that Subhuti has well understood the meaning of the teaching that all phenomena are like illusions. That is, the Bodhisattva who trains in the Prajnaparamita, and the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment that is to be trained in, I understand them also as being like illusions, and others should also be taught to train in this way. Why is that? World Honored One, it is because, for example, the aggregates

Like the five themselves being understood as an illusory person, like this and so on, if one examines in detail and establishes the reason for showing the illusion-like nature, then from the ultimate point of view, there are no things, but it appears as if there are aggregates and so on, it can be determined that this is like an illusion. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? These five aggregates, which are like a dream, having trained in the Perfection of Wisdom, will they become omniscient? From this beginning, consciousness is like a mirage; whatever is consciousness, that is the six senses. That is the five aggregates. They are not perceived because of inner emptiness, and the nature of non-existence is not perceived because of emptiness, until here, the five aggregates are like a dream, like an illusion, like an echo, like an eye disease, like a moon in water, like a mirage, like an emanation, showing that there are no things in the ultimate truth, and as a reason for non-existence, the eighteen emptinesses are mentioned, like this, because these aggregates are empty in nature, therefore, in the ultimate truth, having trained in the Perfection of Wisdom, they will not become omniscient, showing this point, whatever is consciousness, that is the six senses. That is the five aggregates.
