The Bodhisattva himself is also called possessing words worthy of listening to because he only speaks meaningful and logical words. Being without laziness and initiating diligence means being without laziness and initiating diligence in order to perfect the benefit of oneself and others. Not regarding body and life means seeking the supreme Dharma and benefiting sentient beings without sparing body and life in seeking the supreme Dharma and benefiting sentient beings. Being without pretense means that the actions of the body are completely pure, without the fault of living by wrong livelihood. Showing others a peaceful and lawful demeanor by feigning bodily conduct in order to gain profit and respect is called pretense. Being without flattery means showing that there is no fault of deception. Speaking flattering words to others in order to gain profit and respect is called flattery. Having no mind for fame, gain, and respect means that the actions of the mind are completely pure, without fault. Teaching the Dharma without impurity means showing the qualities of completely pure application. Even when teaching the Dharma to sentient beings, it is completely embraced by compassion and thoroughly subdued by wisdom, without attachment to profit and respect, which is called teaching the Dharma without impurity. Up to this point, the qualities of the practice of Bodhisattvas below the seventh ground, who are diligent and without characteristics, are shown. Understanding the supreme forbearance of the profound Dharma, etc., shows the qualities of Bodhisattvas above the eighth ground, who abide without diligence and without characteristics. Bodhisattvas abiding above the eighth ground, in order to ripen sentient beings and purify the Buddha-fields, all do not need to be specially considered and sought. By the power of past actions and the blessing of aspirations, they are naturally accomplished and completely perfected. And because they realize that all dharmas are unborn from the beginning, they are not afraid or terrified of the profound Dharma, and become the most supreme. Therefore, it is called understanding the supreme forbearance of the profound Dharma.

The name "attaining great fearlessness" refers to those Bodhisattvas who have attained forbearance in the profound Dharma. Wherever they go, whether it be among the retinues of gods such as Brahma, or the retinues of Kshatriyas and Brahmins, or the retinues of demons and heretics, they do not fear or dread due to not knowing, nor do they fear or dread due to afflictions. Therefore, it is called "attaining great fearlessness." The name "unshaken mind" refers to the fact that having attained such great fearlessness, wherever they go, whether it be among the retinues of Kshatriyas and Brahmins, they do not fear or dread, because they possess perfect confidence. Therefore, it is called "unshaken mind." The name "completely transcending all the works of Mara" indicates that they possess the power that cannot be overcome by anything. The works of Mara refer to those that will appear below, and the meaning is that they cannot be stopped by all the works of Mara mentioned in other Sutras. The name "severing the obscurations of karma" means that, as mentioned above, in sequence, because there is no fear of not knowing and afflictions, and they have completely transcended the works of Mara, they will not be reborn in the happy or unhappy realms due to the power of past karma. This is simply the meaning. The name "subduing opponents" means that because they have destroyed karma and afflictions, they have abandoned the enemies of karma and afflictions. The name "not being overcome by all external opponents" means that they cannot be overcome by external heretical opponents. The name "difficult to realize by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas" indicates that the wisdom, thoughts, and spheres of activity of those Bodhisattvas are such that Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot understand them. The name "skilled in distinguishing and teaching by thoroughly understanding the Dharma" means that because they thoroughly understand worldly Dharmas such as the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, as well as supramundane Dharmas such as the grounds, Paramitas, and aspects of Bodhi, they are skilled in distinguishing the intrinsic characteristics and external characteristics of those Dharmas, and are skilled in teaching them to others. This refers to those Bodhisattvas.
