That is to say, it is because there is no defilement and obscuration of conceptualization such as what is grasped and what grasps. Said: Fortunate Subhuti, what is the nature of the mind that is clear light? From this sentence to the nature of the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, son of Sharadvati, is clear light, it is shown in detail that there is no defilement of what is grasped and what grasps, and that the nature is clear light. Whether the mind is in the state of an ordinary person, it is neither associated with nor separated from desire, etc., and even in the state of a noble person, it is not separated from desire, because the nature of suchness is immutable. Similarly, for the rest such as ignorance, it should be matched according to their respective situations. The characteristics of the three: desire, hatred, and ignorance, as well as pervasiveness, dormancy, pervasiveness, and views, have been described before. The two, obscuration and severance, have been described before, and now these two will be described here. The so-called obscuration is the obscuration of what is knowable and the obscuration of afflictions. The so-called severance is the five kinds of interruption, namely, desire for desire, harmful thoughts, lethargy, sleep, agitation, regret, and doubt. Lethargy and sleep are counted as one, and agitation and regret are counted as one. These five interruptions are called severance because they interrupt Nirvana. Hearers and solitary Buddhas are neither associated with nor separated from, which means that the inferior minds of hearers and solitary Buddhas are neither associated with nor separated from. Said: Fortunate Subhuti, to which mind is it said that it is not a mind? This means that if the nature of the mind is not established in the ultimate sense, then is there also an object that is not a mind? This is what the noble Shariputra asked. Subhuti said: Fortunate Shariputra, it is indeed not a mind. For what is not a mind, does it exist or not exist on it, can it be an object or exist? This means, does what is not a mind exist?
