This is the concluding explanation of the merits of the exhortation to diligence: Although in the ultimate truth, all dharmas are invisible and inexpressible, in the conventional truth, it should be understood that they are merely nominal designations, and diligence should be taught. Thus it is explained. Having thus understood the establishment of dharmas as names and designations, from "there will be no attachment to form" to "there will be no attachment to purifying the Buddha-field," in this way, although in the conventional truth, diligence is taught by merely nominally designating names and designations, in the ultimate truth, no dharma is seen, and the result of abiding in non-discrimination is that there will be no attachment to all dharmas of the world, such as form, and the transcendental. Why is that? Because it is like this, whether someone is attached, or by what one is attached, or to what one is attached, there is no such dharma. This is the explanation of the reason for not becoming attached, that is, because whether it is the name that causes attachment, or the desire that causes attachment, or the object that causes attachment, all these are not existent in the ultimate truth. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practicing the Prajnaparamita, from "increasing with the Dana Paramita" to "will also obtain the Dharani gates, will also obtain the Samadhi gates," in this way, it is explained that the result of practicing without attachment to all dharmas will be the attainment of the qualities of the Bodhisattva, such as the Paramitas. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practicing the Prajnaparamita should understand the establishment of dharmas as names and designations in this way. This explains the establishment of dharmas as nominal designations and concludes the exhortation to diligence. Having thus explained the established exhortation, now the exhortation of non-perception of sentient beings will be explained, that is, when the Venerable Subhuti asked about the first exhortation to diligence, because he asked by saying "Bodhisattva-Mahasattva," therefore...

To dispel the doubt in some minds that "a Bodhisattva is a real entity," the Blessed One said to Subhuti, "Subhuti, you ask me, 'Blessed One, what is a Bodhisattva?'" The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, what do you think?" and so on. If one considers a Bodhisattva to be a real entity of sentient beings, like the 'self' established by non-Buddhists, three kinds of conceptualizations arise: thinking that form, etc., is the Bodhisattva, or thinking that something other than form, etc., is the Bodhisattva, or thinking that the Bodhisattva is the object of support and the supported, or thinking that the Bodhisattva does not belong to any of these. To eliminate these conceptualizations, the Blessed One asked, "Subhuti, what do you think? Is form the Bodhisattva? Or, is something other than form the Bodhisattva? Is there a Bodhisattva in form? Is there form in the Bodhisattva? Is something without form the Bodhisattva?" Thus, five questions were posed. Among them, 'Is form the Bodhisattva? Or, is something other than form the Bodhisattva?' shows that one should abandon the conceptualization that form itself is the Bodhisattva, or that something other than form is the Bodhisattva. 'Is there a Bodhisattva in form? Is there form in the Bodhisattva?' shows that one should abandon the conceptualization that the Bodhisattva is the object of support and the supported. 'Is something without form the Bodhisattva?' shows that one should abandon the conceptualization that the Bodhisattva does not belong to any of these. That is, no conditioned or unconditioned dharma is a Bodhisattva. Apart from these, there is also no Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva also does not exist in these. These also do not exist in the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva also does not exist in any part of these, nor is it an independent existence unrelated to them. This is what is to be expressed. Among them, from 'Is form the Bodhisattva?' to 'Is something without old age and death the Bodhisattva?', this shows that the Bodhisattva is not a real entity of conditioned dharmas. These conditioned dharmas are the five aggregates and the twelve sources.
