Through seeing the wisdom of liberation, one completely abandons the three Samyojanas of the view of the perishable aggregate, doubt, and adherence to rules and rituals with pride. This means that when one attains the fruit of stream-entry, one abandons the three Samyojanas. Among them, the view of the perishable aggregate refers to the belief that there is a single, permanent self in the collection of the five aggregates, which are by nature perishable. Doubt refers to having doubts about the truths of the noble ones. Adherence to rules and rituals with pride refers to the belief that one can attain liberation merely by observing precepts and practicing asceticism. Because these three dharmas do not liberate but rather bind and cause rebirth in samsara, they are called the three Samyojanas. The statement "This person is a stream-enterer" means that one can know that such a person who possesses the aforementioned qualities is a stream-enterer. Such knowledge is the meaning of the Dharma eye of a Bodhisattva. By diligently cultivating the path of meditation, one makes desire and hatred very subtle. The statement "This person is a once-returner" refers to attaining the fruit of stream-entry and abiding in the path of seeing and above, which is called the path of meditation. In order to clearly recognize the undefiled dharma and abandon opposing factors, repeatedly familiarizing oneself is called the path of meditation. Desire refers to attachment to the objects of desire in the desire realm. Hatred refers to the thought of harming other sentient beings with anger. Thus, a person who abides in the path of meditation and strives to abandon desire and hatred will be born once among humans and gods, and thereafter will not be born among humans and gods, and is called a once-returner. By cultivating that path even more diligently, one attains the fruit of completely abandoning desire and harmful thoughts. The statement "This person is a non-returner" refers to abiding in the path of meditation, and when becoming a once-returner, desire and anger

Completely abandoning all those subtle desires, because one is no longer born into the realms of gods and humans, one is called a Non-Returner. If one cultivates that path even more diligently, as it is said, "attachment to the form realm," etc., it shows the cause of an Arhat. By abandoning attachment to the form realm and the formless realm, ignorance, pride, and agitation, it shows the attainment of Arhatship. Attachment to the form realm and the formless realm refers to being attached to the taste of the samadhi of the four dhyanas of the form realm and the four formless absorptions of the formless realm. Ignorance is the obscuration of not understanding dhyana and samadhi. Pride is being conceited about those dhyanas and samadhis themselves. Agitation means that when abiding in dhyana and samadhi, the aspect of shamatha is small and the aspect of vipashyana is large, causing the mind to be distracted. By abandoning these faults, one is freed from the afflictions of the three realms, and is called an Arhat. Knowing such a sequence of individuals is called the Dharma eye of Bodhisattvas. From "This individual abides in the signless" to "This individual is an Arhat" is also the same as before, except that one especially abides in the door of liberation—signless samadhi—and cultivates it. From "This individual abides in the wishless" to "This individual is an Arhat," fully understanding up to "The son of Sharadvati is the pure Dharma eye of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva," the meaning of what is said is also the same as before, except that one especially abides in wishless samadhi, and from stream-enterer to Arhat, one can attain it, and that is all. It is shown that understanding these is the Dharma eye of Bodhisattvas. Son of Sharadvati, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, whatever it may be, all those that have the nature of arising have the nature of ceasing, up to "This is the son of Sharadvati, the pure Dharma eye of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva," on the ground of adhimukti-charya.

Knowing that all conditioned and transcendental dharmas are subject to cessation, and thereby attaining the five faculties, etc., such knowledge is also the complete purification of the Dharma-eye of a Bodhisattva. The term "dharma of arising" means the same as "dharma of birth." Furthermore, Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, through the Dharma-eye, knows that this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has generated the first thought and practices the perfection of generosity, and so forth, up to Sharadvatiputra, this is also the complete purification of the Dharma-eye of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. In between, the conduct and qualities of a Bodhisattva on the first ground are shown. Such knowledge is also said to be the complete purification of the Dharma-eye of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva knows that this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has been predicted to attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and so forth, up to Sharadvatiputra, the Dharma-eye of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is completely purified. In between, the nature, conduct, and qualities of Bodhisattvas on the second ground and above are shown. Such knowledge is also said to be the complete purification of the Dharma-eye of a Bodhisattva. Sharadvatiputra, this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, after the thought of enlightenment, abides in the Vajra-like Samadhi, and so forth, up to Sharadvatiputra, the Buddha-eye of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who has manifested unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is completely purified. In between, the complete purification of the Buddha-eye of a Bodhisattva is shown. For one who has not yet become a Buddha, the term "Buddha-eye of a Bodhisattva" is used because the Bodhisattva has fully trained in the ten grounds and has obtained the qualities of the Buddha-eye through that cause. Therefore, it is called the Buddha-eye of a Bodhisattva. Sharadvatiputra, thus, a Bodhisattva
