This is to show that one should strive in the perfection. Among them, from "Is form empty? Or is it not empty?" to "Is all-knowingness empty? Or is it not empty?", for the gate of liberation, emptiness, the nature of diligence is shown through abandoning the discrimination between emptiness and non-emptiness. From "Does form have a sign? Or is it without a sign?" to "Does all-knowingness have a sign? Or is it without a sign?", for the gate of liberation, signlessness, the nature of diligence is shown through abandoning the discrimination between having a sign and being without a sign. From "Does form have aspiration? Or is it without aspiration?" to "Does all-knowingness have aspiration? Or is it without aspiration?", for the gate of liberation, aspirationlessness, the nature of diligence is shown through abandoning the discrimination between having aspiration and being without aspiration. From "Is form born? Or does it cease?" to "Is all-knowingness born? Or does it cease?", the nature of diligence is shown through completely abandoning the discrimination of birth and cessation for all phenomena. Because in the ultimate sense, form and other phenomena are not established as real entities, therefore their nature of birth or cessation is also not established. One does not say "form is past." One does not say "is future." From "One does not say all-knowingness is past." One does not say "is future." to "One does not say it is happening now," for the distinctions of form and other phenomena of the three times, the nature of diligence is shown through abandoning discrimination. The Sravaka Abhidharmikas, such as the Sarvastivadins, say: past form exists as a thing that has already completed its function; future form exists as a thing that will perform its function; present form exists as a thing that is performing its function.

In order to avoid clinging to fields, form itself is also established as truly existent in the ultimate sense. Therefore, the qualities and distinctions of form, actions that have been completed, actions that will occur, and the entity that performs actions cannot be established. Because of not clinging to characteristics in this way, it is not connected to the three times. Similarly, it should be connected up to the state of all-knowingness. From "form is permanent" or "impermanent" not being connected, up to "the state of all-knowingness is permanent" or "impermanent" not being connected. Ordinary beings regard form and other phenomena as permanent and having essence, while Hearers and Solitary Realizers regard them as impermanent and without essence, like empty husks. In order to avoid this view, form and other phenomena cannot be established as truly existent in the ultimate sense. Therefore, their qualities and faults, permanence and impermanence, are also without essence. Thus, the characteristic of diligence is shown through abandoning such conceptualizations. Just as with form, all phenomena up to the state of all-knowingness should also be connected. From "form exists" or "does not exist" not being connected or distinguished, up to "the state of all-knowingness exists" or "does not exist" not being connected or distinguished. For form and other phenomena, the characteristic of diligence is shown through abandoning conceptualizations at the extremes of existence and non-existence. "Not connecting" means not engaging in diligence with conceptualizations at the extremes of existence and non-existence. "Not distinguishing" means the opposite of that, which is the meaning of not distinguishing non-connection. In conventional truth, after understanding the characteristics of existence and non-existence of phenomena, one must diligently engage without attachment to them through skillful means. Therefore, when one practices the Perfection of Wisdom, one does not fixate on practicing, one does not fixate on not practicing, practicing also does not fixate on practicing, not practicing also does not fixate on not practicing, neither practicing nor not practicing is fixated upon. This is the conceptualization of the four characteristics of practicing and not practicing, and so on.

This is the explanation of the characteristic of diligence through abandoning attachment. Among them, "not focusing on 'practice'" means that, as mentioned above, if one also practices in this way for those who have the characteristics of practice and diligence, it is understood as practicing in the Prajnaparamita, and one does not cling to the characteristics. "Not focusing on 'non-practice'" means the opposite of the former. For those who do not have the characteristics of diligence, one does not cling to the characteristics of 'this is practicing' or 'not understanding as diligence'. "Practicing is also not practicing, and not practicing is also not practicing, not focusing on it" means that one does not cling to the characteristic of 'not understanding as practicing in the conventional truth, and not understanding as practicing in the ultimate truth'. "Neither practicing nor not practicing, not focusing on it" means that this is reversing the observation of up and down from the first discrimination, that is, not clinging to the characteristic of 'not practicing in the ultimate truth, and not not practicing in the conventional truth'. Not falling into the four discriminations in this way means understanding that one has the characteristic of diligence in the Prajnaparamita. For the sake of generosity paramita, one does not practice in the Prajnaparamita.
