Having completely and perfectly awakened in all ways, liberating all sentient beings completely from suffering, and so on. Sharadvatiputra, for example, like creatures such as fireflies, etc., the examples of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are taken from fireflies. The example of Bodhisattvas is taken from the center of the sun, thereby showing the difference between the breadth and narrowness of thought and action. After saying this, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to the Blessed One, and so on, in order to dispel the doubts of the Dharma-listening assembly. He asked about the three states: having transcended the state of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, abiding in the state of non-retrogression, and abiding in the complete practice of the Bodhi path. Among them, "having transcended the state of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas" refers to asking about abiding in the state of having transcended the state of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. "Having attained the state of non-retrogressing Bodhisattva" refers to asking about abiding in the state of non-retrogression. "The path of the Bodhisattva is completely practiced" refers to asking about abiding in the complete practice of the Bodhi path. Among them, from the initial generation of the mind to the attainment of the state of non-retrogressing Bodhisattva, it shows all three: having transcended the state of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, abiding in the state of non-retrogression, and abiding in the complete practice of the Bodhi path. Sharadvatiputra asked, "Blessed One, in which state does the Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva, become the object of offering for all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas?" This refers to whether the Bodhisattva, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas become the object of offering for Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas immediately after transcending their respective states? Or do they become the object of offering for Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas at another time? This is how the question was asked. The Blessed One replied, "Sharadvatiputra, from the initial generation of the mind onwards," etc., showing that immediately upon attaining the first ground, the Joyful Ground, one becomes the object of offering for all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Why is that? Because then

O son of Sharadvati, because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas exist, all virtuous dharmas will arise in the world, and so forth, which shows the reason for becoming an object of generosity. All virtuous dharmas arising in the world are also of two kinds: worldly dharmas and supramundane dharmas. Among them, worldly dharmas are, for example, the ten paths of virtuous actions will arise in the world, up to the four formless absorptions will arise in the world. Supramundane dharmas are, from the five superknowledges will arise in the world, up to O son of Sharadvati, these virtuous dharmas and so forth will arise in the world. Because these virtuous dharmas arise in the world, there are great royal families and so forth, which shows the ripened fruit of virtuous dharmas arising in the world. Among them, the ripened fruit of worldly dharmas with outflows is that there are great royal families and so forth, up to the gods of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception exist. The ripened fruit of supramundane dharmas without outflows arising in the world is that the stream-enterers exist in the world, up to the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones exist in the world. Question: O Blessed One, is it so that the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are completely purifying generosity? This is because, above, the qualities of the Bodhisattvas have been mentioned, showing that the Bodhisattvas with such qualities have become the objects of generosity for the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and whether offering and paying homage to those who have become objects of generosity will result in great fruit or not. O son of Sharadvati, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are completely purified by the categories of generosity, which is the fruit of generosity.

, which shows that it will mature into great fruition in future lives. Why is that? Because giving to a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, everything will be very pure. For example, Sharadvati's son, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is a complete giver, which means that giving to a Bodhisattva shows the reason for complete purification in future lives. Because the result of giving will be to obtain various virtuous dharmas of the world and beyond, it is called complete giving. What are the various virtuous dharmas that will be obtained as a result of giving to a Bodhisattva? It is as stated from "the ten paths of virtuous actions" to "the complete giving of the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha." Up to this point, it has been shown how one should strive. Having shown how one should strive in this way, now, in order to show the characteristics of those who strive, the question is asked: "Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva strive in the Prajnaparamita so that it is called striving?" This is asking how to strive so that it is considered practicing the Prajnaparamita. Sharadvati's son, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva strives in the emptiness of form, it is called striving, etc., which shows the characteristics of those who strive. The five skandhas, the twelve ayatanas, the eighteen dhatus, the four noble truths, the twelve links of dependent origination, and conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, if one strives in the emptiness of these, it is called striving. This is the concluding statement. Among them, the mention of the five skandhas, dhatus, ayatanas, truths, and dependent origination is to separately and in detail distinguish the respective characteristics of the five skandhas, etc., and to show their emptiness. Conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, whatever can be named, and the emptiness of self-nature, this is the characteristic of summarizing all dharmas, namely emptiness.
