Therefore, wishing to attain such greatness, one should study the Prajñāpāramitā, that is its meaning. If, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I wish that in that Buddha-field there be no sound of desire, hatred, and ignorance, this indicates the complete and excellent fruit of the Tathāgata subduing the afflictive demons. If, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, all sentient beings in that Buddha-field say, 'Giving in this way is virtuous,' etc., this indicates the complete and excellent fruit of the Tathāgata's wisdom. Because the sentient beings born in that Buddha-field will possess such wisdom due to the fruit of having cultivated wisdom in the past. Wishing to possess such qualities, one should study the Prajñāpāramitā, and this should be connected.

With phrases such as "not gathering on the ground," it shows that the thoughts of a Bodhisattva who practices in this way are completely pure, and that their conduct is completely pure. "Venerable One, does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva not seek parents, attendants, sons, and daughters, etc., but seek instead?" etc. After discussing the qualities of the Bodhisattva above, sons and daughters of good families vowed to become the parents, etc., of that Bodhisattva. The Four Great Kings, etc., were delighted, but because they feared vowing to give away their consorts and retinues, Shariputra asked the Venerable One whether a Bodhisattva does not consume sons, attendants, etc. In response to this question, The Venerable One taught: "The Bodhisattva himself does not engage in the enjoyment of the five sensual pleasures with attachment. Rather, abiding in the conventional truth, without attachment, he skillfully uses the four means of gathering to gather sentient beings, and in order to establish them in the sacred Dharma, he demonstrates the enjoyment of the five sensual pleasures." Up to this point, it has been shown for what one should strive. Having thus shown for what one should strive, now, in order to distinguish the chapter on how to strive, "Venerable One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Prajnaparamita?" etc., was spoken. Among these, with the phrase "how to practice," Shariputra, in a manner with characteristics and attachments, inquired about the Bodhisattva and the Prajnaparamita, and the practice of them, these three. "Son of Sharadvati, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Prajnaparamita, he does not truly see the Bodhisattva," etc., through the door of the selflessness of the person, it shows that the Bodhisattva, the name of the Bodhisattva, the conduct of the Bodhisattva, the Prajnaparamita, the name of the Prajnaparamita, conduct and non-conduct, etc., have nothing to be grasped in ultimate truth. With the phrase "form is also not truly seen," etc., through the door of the selflessness of phenomena, regarding form, etc.

The refutation of not observing the ultimate has been shown. In order to answer the question of "how to practice," the conclusion that "one should practice in this way" has been shown. What is the reason for that? Shariputra, it is because the Bodhisattva is also empty of the nature of a Bodhisattva, and so on. The reason for not truly seeing has been shown. What is the reason for that? Because "its nature is that," and so on, the reason for how it is empty has been shown. It is like this: emptiness is not that form is empty by emptiness, this is because form has the nature of emptiness. There is no emptiness apart from form, this is not to say that the nature of emptiness exists as a real entity apart from form, but the nature of form is not established in the ultimate, this itself is emptiness, this is the conclusion. Therefore, form itself is emptiness. It has been said that emptiness is also form, form and emptiness are not different entities in the ultimate, but both are the same in the ultimate nature of emptiness, this is the meaning. Similarly, the same should be applied to feelings and the other lower phenomena. What is the reason for that? It is like this: the name Bodhisattva is just a name, and so on. For those mentioned before the name, such as Bodhi and Bodhisattva, they are only spoken of as names in conventional terms, but they are not established as real entities in the ultimate, this is the conclusion. Some people think like this: if Bodhisattvas and forms are empty in nature and do not exist, then like rabbit horns, they are the kind that cannot appear, but forms and so on are not like that. In response to this, the simile of illusion is shown, such as "form is like an illusion," and so on. The horses and elephants and so on that are created as illusions by magicians, although they are not the nature of horses and elephants, appear as the forms of horses and elephants, this is the conclusion. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices in this way does not truly see any dharma arising, and so on, this is that.
