This is explained in the teachings. Because of not clinging to mindfulness, one should perfect the four mindfulnesses, that is, to contemplate the four aspects of body, feeling, mind, and phenomena. These four contemplations are called the four mindfulnesses. First, one must fully understand, and then, after understanding, thoroughly comprehend as it is. Regarding body, feeling, mind, and phenomena, as well as the mindfulness and wisdom that focus on them, and the mental phenomena that correspond to them, one must recognize that they are fabricated and not truly existent. One must fully understand that ultimate reality is inexpressible and not an object of mindfulness and wisdom. Therefore, one must realize that the nature of mindfulness is not ultimately existent, abide in the Perfection of Wisdom, and thus perfect mindfulness. Therefore, it is also said in the Hundred Thousand Verses: "Mindfulness is without an object." One should perfect the four right abandonments, that is, by diligently generating virtue and abandoning evil and unwholesome phenomena. This is called the four right abandonments. That is, for unwholesome phenomena that have not yet arisen, in order to prevent them from arising, one should generate intention, strive, exert effort, and be fully attentive. For unwholesome phenomena that have already arisen, in order to abandon them, one should generate intention, and so on. For wholesome phenomena that have not yet arisen, in order to generate them, one should generate intention, and so on. For wholesome phenomena that have already arisen, in order to maintain them, increase them, prevent them from declining, and perfect them, one should generate intention, strive, exert effort, and be fully attentive. One should perfect the four legs of miraculous power, that is, the leg of miraculous power that possesses the samadhi of desire (the samadhi of wanting to achieve) and the activity of abandonment (the effort to abandon obstacles), the leg of miraculous power that possesses the samadhi of mind (the samadhi of concentration) and the activity of abandonment, the leg of miraculous power that possesses the samadhi of diligence (the samadhi of effort) and the activity of abandonment, and the samadhi of investigation

It is the practice of the miraculous foot endowed with the intention of abandoning. These four samādhis are the cause, support, and basis for attaining miraculous powers, the qualities of the noble ones, and great wealth, and because they are like feet, they are called miraculous feet. The so-called "perfecting the five faculties" refers to the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of samādhi, and the faculty of wisdom. Because one can attain the nature of uncontaminated dharma by the power of these, such as faith, they are called faculties. The so-called "perfecting the five powers" refers to the fact that these five faculties, such as faith, are not overcome by the afflictive aspects due to the power of habituation, and become endowed with power, hence they are called the five powers. The so-called "perfecting the seven branches of enlightenment" refers to the mindfulness of perfect enlightenment, the discrimination of dharma of perfect enlightenment, the diligence of perfect enlightenment, the joy of perfect enlightenment, the pliancy of perfect enlightenment, the samādhi of perfect enlightenment, and the equanimity of perfect enlightenment. When one realizes the nature of dharma with the nature of enlightenment on the first ground, these, such as mindfulness, become the cause and companion, hence they are called the branches of enlightenment. The so-called "perfecting the eightfold noble path" refers to perfect view, perfect thought, perfect speech, perfect action, perfect livelihood, perfect effort, perfect mindfulness, and perfect samādhi. When entering the path of cultivation from attaining the first ground to the tenth ground, because one possesses these, it is called the eightfold noble path. This practice of the branches of enlightenment will also be explained in detail below when the Great Vehicle is taught. Since the characteristics of perfect abandonment and so forth are of the nature of non-things, one should fully understand that perfect abandonment and so forth are of the nature of non-objectification, and it is the Perfection of Wisdom.
