This is to show that one does not abide in the Perfection of Wisdom. From "one should not abide in what is called form in the manner of focusing" to "one should not abide in what is called all-knowingness in the manner of focusing," what is to be shown is that not abiding in the manner of focusing on the characteristics of phenomena such as form is abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom. The characteristics of phenomena such as form, such as the characteristic of form is that it is changeable and has obstacles. The characteristic of feeling is the nature of experiencing pleasure and pain, etc. For each of the characteristics of the phenomena, how should they be combined accordingly? From "one should not abide in the manner of focusing on form as permanent" and "impermanent," etc., what is to be shown is that not abiding in the manner of focusing on the nature of phenomena such as form is abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom. Not abiding in the manner of focusing on the nature of phenomena also belongs to the category of all-knowingness, the category of knowing the aspects of the path, and the category of all-knowingness. Among them, from "one should not abide in the manner of focusing on form as permanent" and "impermanent," etc., to "one should not abide in the manner of focusing on the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha as the place of giving," what is to be shown is that one does not abide in the nature of phenomena that belongs to the category of all-knowingness. What is called belonging to the category of all-knowingness is also for the sake of hearers and solitary Buddhas to attain all-knowingness in the manner of the Lesser Vehicle. For phenomena such as form up to all-knowingness, in the manner of focusing, one contemplates and abides in the nature of phenomena such as permanence and impermanence, pleasure and pain, self and non-self, loveliness and unloveliness, peace and non-peace, solitude and non-solitude, emptiness and non-emptiness, having signs and not having signs, having aspirations and not having aspirations.

This is the teaching of not abiding in this way by practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Kaushika, furthermore, one should not abide in the manner of focusing on the unconditioned (asaṃskṛta-pakṣa) of the fruit of stream-entry, and so on, up to not abiding in the manner of focusing on the unconditioned (asaṃskṛta-pakṣa) of unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. This also teaches that one should not abide in the Dharma of stream-entry and so on. The nature of the Dharma of the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, the Arhat, the Pratyekabuddha, and the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment is to focus on and meditate on what is called the unconditioned Nirvana, and from this, the fruits of stream-entry and so on are attained. Therefore, it is taught that one should not abide in the manner of focusing on the unconditioned (asaṃskṛta-pakṣa) of the fruit of stream-entry and so on. One should not abide in the manner of focusing on stream-entry as the place of giving, and so on, up to not abiding in the manner of focusing on the Tathagata, Arhat, perfect and complete Buddha as the place of giving. This also teaches that one should not abide in the manner of focusing on the Dharma nature of stream-entry and so on. It is taught that one should not abide in the manner of focusing on the Dharma nature of stream-entry, once-returning, non-returning, Arhat, Pratyekabuddha, and the Tathagata, Arhat, perfect and complete Buddha as the place of giving. Kaushika, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should not abide in the manner of focusing on the first Bhumi, and so on, up to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should place immeasurable and countless sentient beings in unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, and should not abide in the manner of focusing on this. This teaches that one should not abide in the practice that belongs to the aspect of knowing the path. The so-called aspect of knowing the path also refers to the Bodhisattvas abiding in the ten Bhumis in sequence, and the

To perfect the six perfections, to perfect the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, to engage in the flawless conduct of a Bodhisattva, to abide in the irreversible stage, to perfect the five supernormal cognitions, to go to immeasurable and countless Buddha-fields in order to serve and honor the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, to listen to the Dharma, and to teach the Dharma that has been heard to others, and to perfectly accomplish such Buddha-fields of those Buddhas as they are, to ripen sentient beings in enlightenment, to go to immeasurable and countless world realms, to offer and serve the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddhas with flowers, garlands, and so forth, and to establish immeasurable and countless sentient beings in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and to obtain the knowledge of the aspects of the Bodhisattva's path, not abiding in the manner of focusing on those, is abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom, thus it is taught. From "One should cultivate the five eyes" to "The Bodhisattva Mahasattva should perfectly accomplish the eighty minor marks on the body," not abiding in the manner of focusing on those, is teaching not to abide in the conduct belonging to the category of all-knowingness. The so-called all-knowingness refers to the wisdom abiding in the Buddha-ground. In order to obtain that wisdom, cultivating the five eyes of the Tathagata, cultivating the samadhis, playing with the samadhis, cultivating the doors of dharani, and perfectly accomplishing the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, the thirty-two major marks of a great being, and the eighty minor marks, thinking, "By this, I shall obtain all-knowingness," not abiding in the manner of focusing on those, is the Perfection of Wisdom.
