This shows that everything is not ultimately real, but merely temporarily designated as a name. Like this, names do not come from anywhere, do not go anywhere, and do not abide anywhere. This is because the five aggregates are not truly existent, but shows the reason for temporarily designating them as names. Because the aggregates such as form do not have substance in reality, they do not come from anywhere when they arise, nor do they go anywhere when they cease. Because they are of momentary nature, they do not abide anywhere. What is called merely a name is not form, it is not feeling, it is not perception, it is not formation, it is not consciousness. This shows that what is not truly existent, but merely temporarily designated as a name, is not the nature of the five aggregates. Why is that? Like this, a name is empty of its own nature. Whatever is emptiness is not a name. This shows the reason why a temporarily designated name is not the nature of the five aggregates, meaning that because the name is empty of its own nature, it is not the nature of the five aggregates. Just as it was said about the five aggregates, so too should it be applied to the twelve internal and external sources, the six consciousnesses, the six confluences of contact, the six feelings arising from contact, the six elements such as the earth element, and the twelve links of dependent origination such as ignorance. Sharadvatiputra, endowed with life, furthermore, this is how it is: the perfection of generosity is merely a name, and on the name there is also the perfection of generosity, and on the perfection of generosity there is not that name, and so on. Up to the six perfections and all aspects of omniscience, all pure dharmas are not ultimately real, because they are merely designated as names, therefore the bodhisattva is also merely designated as a name. Sharadvatiputra, endowed with life, also said this: for example, I, I, the self is extremely unestablished, and so on. This is what Shariputra asked Subhuti earlier, what do you

For example, because it is said "I, I," if asked about words such as "I am completely unestablished," Subhuti repeats it. It elaborates on the meaning of the "self," etc., conjectured by non-Buddhists as completely unestablished. To this, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said, "If the self is completely non-existent and invisible, how could it possibly be established?" From "If the seer is completely non-existent and invisible, how could it possibly be established?" in between, the "self," etc., which are perversely conjectured by non-Buddhists, do not exist as things such as the agent. Because they are non-existent and invisible, how could they themselves be established? Or, how could others apart from them be established and arise?" Thus, it is explained that there is no self in a person. If form is completely non-existent and invisible, how could it possibly be established? From "If the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Complete Buddha is completely non-existent and invisible, how could it possibly be established?" in between, the worldly dharmas such as the five aggregates, and all the transcendental dharmas such as the six perfections, are not things that exist in ultimate truth. Because they are completely non-existent and invisible, it is explained how could they possibly be established? This explains the absence of self in phenomena. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, therefore, is also called "self," saying "I am completely unestablished," which summarizes and explains the meaning mentioned above. In the reasoning mentioned above, both person and phenomena are completely non-existent and invisible, therefore it is explained that it is impossible to be established. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, if all dharmas are also of the nature of non-inherent existence, then saying "is," etc., this is Subhuti repeating the words of Shariputra asking Subhuti "If all dharmas are also of the nature of non-inherent existence," and explaining in detail the meaning that all dharmas are of the nature of non-inherent existence. What is that?
