Until all the qualities are completely perfected and fully possessed, it is said that the Bodhisattva dwells on the ninth ground, completing the twelve dharmas, which is an explanation of the above-mentioned summary. Among them, from "What is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwelling on the tenth ground, called the Tathagata-garbha?" to "Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwelling on the tenth ground is called the Tathagata-garbha," it is an explanation of the above-mentioned summary that the Bodhisattva dwelling on the tenth ground is called the Tathagata-garbha. The meanings of these have already been explained in the context of the above-mentioned summary. Subhuti, what are the ten grounds of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva? From "Subhuti, these are the ten grounds of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva" to the end, it is an explanation of the above-mentioned statement that the Bodhisattva dwelling on the ten grounds is called the Tathagata-garbha, how to dwell on the ten grounds, and the meaning of how to be called the Tathagata-garbha. When a Bodhisattva skillfully practices the six perfections, the eighteen emptinesses, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, and so on, up to the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, he transcends the grounds of the Hearers, the Solitary Buddhas, and the nine Bodhisattva grounds, and dwelling on the tenth Bodhisattva ground indicates that he is dwelling on the Buddha ground. Among them, the so-called "White and Pure Ground" refers to the fact that when dwelling on the ground of faith practice, when obtaining the samadhi called "Warmth" and "Peak," one first sees the pure white dharmas, hence it is called the White and Pure Ground. The so-called "Lineage Ground" refers to the fact that when obtaining the samadhi called "Forbearance" and "Supreme Worldly Dharma," one realizes the selflessness of dharmas and persons, and therefore possesses the lineage to attain the three enlightenments, hence it is called the Lineage Ground. The so-called "Eighth Ground" refers to the fact that counting upwards from the ground of obtaining the Arhat fruit, the number of times one enters the stream-enterer fruit is the eighth time, therefore it is entering the stream-enterer fruit.

It is called the eighth ground. The ground called "seeing ground" is so called because it abides in the fruit of stream-entry, realizes and sees the suchness of the Dharma without any perversion. The ground called "thin ground" is so called because the once-returner makes the desire for the desire realm thin. The ground called "ground free from desire" is so called because it abides in the ground of no-returner and completely abandons the desire for the desire realm. The ground called "ground of having done what needs to be done" is so called because it abides in the ground of Arhat, abandons all the afflictions of the three realms, perfects the qualities of Arhat, and with the wisdom of seeing liberation, knows that what needs to be done has been done. The pure conduct has been practiced, and it will not experience another existence from this, therefore the ground of Arhat is called the ground of having done what needs to be done. Thus, the grounds of the Hearers, and the nine grounds including the first ground of the Bodhisattva, are completely transcended, and abiding in the ten grounds is the tenth ground of the Bodhisattva. Abiding in the Buddha ground means that the Bodhisattva abides in the tenth ground and perfects the accumulation of merit and wisdom, therefore it is similar to the Buddha, hence it is called abiding in the Buddha ground. Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should know that he has truly entered the Great Vehicle, which means that from the first ground to the tenth ground, the Bodhisattva completely abandons all faults, perfects all qualities, and completely trains in the ten grounds of the Bodhisattva. These should be known to have truly entered the Great Vehicle, which is a summary explanation of the meaning of truly entering the Great Vehicle mentioned above. Subhuti, what you said, "From where will this vehicle come?" etc., is the word of Subhuti asking the Bhagavan, "From where will this vehicle come?" That is to say, the Great Vehicle arises from the three realms in the conventional truth and ultimately abides in the omniscient wisdom, but in the ultimate truth, it does not arise from the three realms either.
