The phrase "the activities of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding on the first ground" indicates that a Bodhisattva abiding on the first ground, if they fully cultivate those ten purifications, it is shown that they have truly entered the Great Vehicle. Subhuti, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding on the second ground should repeatedly contemplate these eight dharmas and diligently practice them. The phrase "one should diligently apply oneself to them," and so forth, indicates that a Bodhisattva abiding on the second ground should repeatedly contemplate eight dharmas and diligently practice them. What are the eight? For example, the phrase "completely pure morality" means that a Bodhisattva abiding on the second ground, in order to fully perfect the perfection of morality, should make their morality completely pure. And that completely pure morality is not to think of the mind of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, nor to think of the immoral dharmas of discipline that become obstacles to unsurpassed enlightenment. The phrase "knowing what has been done and being grateful" means that in order to increase love for all sentient beings, even if one has done a small benefit, one should remember it until the end of samsara, let alone if one has done a great benefit. One should repay kindness and reciprocate benefits. The phrase "abiding in the power of patience" means not looking at the faults of sentient beings, and having no intention to harm or injure sentient beings. The phrase "one should experience great joy and delight" means that if all sentient beings are placed in the three vehicles and fully ripened, I will make sentient beings very happy and delighted and satisfied. The phrase "completely not abandoning all sentient beings" means that in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, a Bodhisattva benefits all sentient beings and completely protects them without abandoning them. The phrase "manifesting great compassion" means that although a Bodhisattva abides in their own perfect happiness, if they see sentient beings suffering, they are moved by great compassion. In order to liberate these suffering sentient beings from suffering, I must endure the suffering of the hells of sentient beings for many eons, until those sentient beings obtain the wisdom of the Buddha.

In between (a Bodhisattva's) practice, great compassion is manifested, and one is enthusiastic and unwearied in benefiting sentient beings. "Serving the guru and treating him with devotion and respect" means generating faith and respect for the Khenpo and Acharya who teach the true Dharma, and serving them. "Diligently seeking the Paramitas" means diligently practicing the six Paramitas and accomplishing their meaning in order to fully ripen sentient beings and to fully perfect the aspects of enlightenment. "Subhuti, these eight dharmas are what a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding on the second bhumi should repeatedly contemplate and diligently practice" means that if one repeatedly contemplates these eight dharmas and diligently practices them, it indicates that one has correctly entered the Mahayana path. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding on the third bhumi should abide in five dharmas, etc., which refers to the five dharmas in which a Bodhisattva abiding on the third bhumi should abide, namely, not being satisfied with hearing the Dharma and not being attached to the letters. That is, a Bodhisattva on the third bhumi naturally seeks extensive learning, and even for the sake of hearing a single verse of the true Dharma, he is willing to cross through even if the three thousand great thousand worlds are filled with flames. Although in the relative truth they seek extensive learning without satisfaction, in the ultimate truth they do not cling to or become attached to names and letters. Giving the Dharma without any ulterior motive, and not becoming arrogant because of it, means that after accumulating so much learning, when teaching the Dharma to others, one does not even expect to obtain the result of unsurpassed enlightenment through teaching the Dharma, let alone expect to obtain worldly gain and respect. That is, one does not desire the result of giving the Dharma, and one does not feel arrogant because of giving the Dharma, which is giving the Dharma without any ulterior motive. Accumulating merit and fully dedicating it for the purification of the Buddha-field, but not becoming arrogant because of it.
