Until the attainment of the first bhumi, in order to abandon the subtle afflictions to be abandoned by the noble ones through the path of meditation, and in order to attain the ground of liberation, one should cultivate these eight, such as right view. Because cultivating these abandons the subtle afflictions and is the cause or path for attaining the fruit of liberation, it is called the Noble Eightfold Path. Among them, right view is to abandon worldly wrong views and to see the reality of the Dharma realm without error with the eye of wisdom. Right thought is to understand and ascertain the Dharma realm itself without error. Right speech is that, due to the cause of understanding the Dharma realm, false speech and other wrong words do not arise, and one teaches the Dharma to others with words that do not contradict the nature of reality. Right action is not doing what should not be done because of having faultless discipline. Right livelihood is having little desire and being content, and not having a livelihood based on deceit and other wrong means. Right effort is to strive to abandon the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of meditation and to cultivate their antidotes. Right mindfulness is to maintain mindfulness without being influenced by sinking and excitement, the two near afflictions to be abandoned by the path of meditation. Right concentration is to place the non-conceptual mind one-pointedly on the Dharma realm itself, and by its power to attain qualities such as clairvoyance. Abiding in solitude, abiding in detachment from desire, abiding in cessation, and being completely accomplished by complete abandonment are the same as before. Subhuti, furthermore, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is, for example, that there are three samadhis, etc., which is to explain that the three doors of liberation are the Great Vehicle. The three doors of liberation are also called the three samadhis, that is, cultivating the three samadhis of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness can liberate one from the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge, and become the gateway to entering the characteristic of liberation, Nirvana.

Therefore, it is called the gate of liberation. What is the Samadhi of Emptiness? When the mind abides upon realizing that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, this is called the gate of emptiness liberation. This means that for the characteristics of the completely imputed that have become the realm of activity for ordinary beings, and for the inexpressible nature of the thoroughly established, when realizing and meditating on emptiness, the mind becomes one-pointed, this is called the Samadhi of Emptiness. What is the signless Samadhi? When the mind abides upon realizing that all dharmas are without signs, this is called the gate of signless liberation. This means that, like this, through the Samadhi of Emptiness and so forth, one does not grasp onto the characteristics of the completely imputed dharmas, and does not conceptualize, this is called the signless Samadhi. What is the wishless Samadhi? When the mind abides upon realizing that there is no need to manifest all dharmas, and does not manifest, this is called the gate of wishless liberation. This means that, like this, realizing that the nature of all dharmas is emptiness and without signs, therefore one is not attached to or wishes for anything. In order to be born in the three realms in the next life and obtain the happiness of the three realms, one does not manifest those actions and afflictions that become the cause of being born in the three realms, and one meditates with the mind focused on one point, this is called the wishless Samadhi. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: eleven wisdoms, and so forth, this is to show that the eleven wisdoms are the Great Vehicle. What is knowing suffering? Knowing that suffering does not arise, this means knowing that the five aggregates of clinging are the nature of suffering, but are unborn in the ultimate sense. What is knowing the origin? Knowing to abandon the origin, this means knowing that the cause of the accumulation of the aggregates of suffering, namely actions and afflictions, etc., have no self-nature, therefore knowing that they will not arise in the future, this is called knowing to abandon the origin. What is knowing cessation? Knowing the cessation of suffering
