Pa'o. The so-called Samadhi of Mind is to diligently train the mind by combining Shamatha and Vipassana, thereby achieving concentration and one-pointedness. The so-called Samadhi of Discrimination is to diligently analyze the Dharmas that are incompatible with the antidote of wisdom, thereby achieving concentration and one-pointedness. Possessing the intention of abandonment, dwelling in solitude, etc., are as previously stated. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Mahayana of Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, such as the so-called Five Roots, etc., indicates that the Five Roots are the Mahayana. That is, because of possessing these five Dharmas of faith, diligence, mindfulness, Samadhi, and wisdom, they become the cause for attaining the four fruits such as entering the stream of supramundane Dharmas, as well as the first Bhumi, etc., therefore they are called Roots. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva's Mahayana, such as the so-called Five Powers, etc., indicates that the Five Powers are the Mahayana. That is, because of repeatedly cultivating these five roots of faith, etc., they become stable and powerful, therefore they cannot be shaken or overwhelmed by afflictions and other incompatible Dharmas, so they are called Powers. If one cultivates these Five Roots and Five Powers, one will definitely possess the four virtuous roots that are in accordance with the Part of Discrimination, what are the four? Namely, the Warmth Stage, the Peak Stage, the Forbearance Stage, and the World's Supreme Dharma. Among them, at the time of the Warmth Stage and the Peak Stage, faith, etc., are called the Five Roots. When possessing the Forbearance Stage and the World's Supreme Dharma, they are called the Five Powers. The so-called Part of Discrimination refers to the fact that when a Bodhisattva is on the first Bhumi, they definitively realize the suchness of the Dharmadhatu and make distinctions, so it is called the Part of Discrimination. If one cultivates the Five Roots and Five Powers, and possesses the Warmth Stage, the Peak Stage, the Forbearance Stage, and the World's Supreme Dharma, then the so-called Part of Discrimination is in accordance with the part of the first Bhumi.

Field. In order to become the cause of attaining the first ground, it is necessary to take the root of virtue corresponding to the discriminating part. Subhuti, furthermore, the Mahayana of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this, such as the seven branches of enlightenment, etc., which means that the seven branches of enlightenment are the Mahayana. What is called enlightenment is the realization of the nature of enlightenment, the suchness of the Dharmadhatu, on the first ground. These seven dharmas, such as mindfulness, are called the branches of enlightenment because they are the companions for realizing the nature of enlightenment, or become the cause or branch. That is, mindfulness, discrimination of dharmas, diligence, joy, tranquility, samadhi, and equanimity are the limbs of perfect enlightenment. Among them, mindfulness is not forgetting the object of focus and the mind is clear. Diligence is to generate joy and diligence in realizing the Dharmadhatu, and not to be lazy. Joy is to see and experience the joy of the Dharma when attaining the first ground, which has never been seen or experienced before. Tranquility is to realize the Dharmadhatu in this way, and when experiencing the joy of the Dharma, the body and mind are tranquil and able to practice meditation. Samadhi is the state of mind abiding in the Dharmadhatu with one-pointedness. Equanimity is the mind being spontaneously accomplished in realizing the Dharmadhatu without being overcome by opposing factors. These seven dharmas are the true branches for realizing the nature of enlightenment of the Dharmadhatu, so they are called the limbs of perfect enlightenment. Abiding in solitude, abiding in detachment from desire, abiding in cessation, and being accomplished by complete abandonment are as described in the chapter on the feet of miraculous power. Subhuti, furthermore, the Mahayana of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this, such as the Noble Eightfold Path, etc., which means that the Noble Eightfold Path is the Mahayana. The noble Hearers from the Stream-enterer fruit up to the Bodhisattva
