The phrase "four" and so on indicates that the four right abandonments are the manifestation of the Great Vehicle. Through diligence, one prevents unwholesome and non-virtuous dharmas that have not arisen from arising, abandons those that have arisen, causes virtuous dharmas that have not arisen to arise, and causes those that have arisen to abide, increase, and strive for complete perfection, which is called right abandonment. Furthermore, there are four types of diligence: armor-like diligence, application diligence, unyielding diligence, and skillful means diligence. Among them, "generating aspiration" and so on refers to initially generating aspiration and desire in the mind, thinking, "I should do it this way," which is armor-like diligence. "Striving" refers to abandoning sinful dharmas and generating virtuous dharmas in accordance with the diligence of donning armor, which is called application diligence because of the application. "Initiating diligence" refers to unyielding diligence. Even if one encounters difficult and arduous tasks, one does not become discouraged and initiates diligence, hence it is called unyielding diligence. "Increasing the power of the mind, applying mindfulness correctly" refers to skillful means diligence. When practicing meditation and samadhi, if the mind becomes dull, one uses skillful means to increase the power of the mind and make it clear. If the mind becomes agitated, one uses skillful means to focus the mind on one point, which is called skillful means diligence. "Applying mindfulness correctly" refers to keeping the mind stable and holding it without distraction at this time. The meaning of the Great Vehicle is as previously explained. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is, as stated in "four legs of magical power" and so on, that the four legs of magical power are the manifestation of the Great Vehicle. The term "legs of magical power" refers to the cause, basis, or support for attaining supramundane magical powers. Therefore, the four samadhis are called legs of magical power. The four samadhis are the samadhi of aspiration, the samadhi of mind, the samadhi of diligence, and the samadhi of investigation. Among them, the samadhi of aspiration is good

Because of the great longing that arises for meditating on the earth, due to the power of longing, the mind is placed evenly and becomes one-pointed, this is called the samadhi of longing. What is meant by having the intention of abandonment is that through the power of meditating on samadhi in this way, one will have eight actions of abandonment. What are the eight? They are: desire, effort, faith, pliancy, mindfulness, awareness, attention, and equanimity. These eight qualities abandon afflictions, therefore they are called actions of abandonment. Among them, desire is the wish to enter into the meditations and samadhis of the world and beyond the world. Effort is striving and diligently eliminating all non-virtuous qualities. Faith is the desire to attain the four fruits, including the fruit of stream-entry, and the qualities of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, including the ten bhumis. When entering into the meditation and samadhi of pliancy, the body and mind are serviceable. Mindfulness is when the mind is not confused in meditation and samadhi. Awareness is being cautious so that, by the power of wisdom, qualities of the opposing side do not arise. Attention is the characteristic of completely subduing the mind, the mind manifestly acting. Equanimity is when the mind is without sinking and agitation, and naturally accomplishes equanimity. Having these eight qualities, one abandons afflictions and other qualities of the opposing side, therefore it is called having the intention of abandonment. What is meant by abiding in solitude is that the samadhi of longing abides in being separated from external and internal busyness. What is meant by abiding in being free from desire is abiding in being free from the afflictions of the three realms. What is meant by abiding in cessation is that suffering is ceased. What is meant by being completely accomplished by complete abandonment is that the five aggregates of appropriation are completely abandoned. What is meant by the samadhi of effort is that due to the power of taking effort to heart, striving to abandon non-virtuous qualities and increase virtuous qualities, the mind is placed evenly and becomes one-pointed.
