Such a brave great being, having donned great armor, completely matures sentient beings, completely purifies the Buddha-fields, and plays with miraculous powers. Thus, proclaiming the sound and echoing the tone, they engage in vast practices. For the Bodhisattva who has donned great armor, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, in the ten directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, praise the qualities of that Bodhisattva and show its benefits. Thus, because of donning great armor, they are called Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. After explaining the meaning of this term, to distinguish the meaning of the term Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has correctly entered the Mahayana, it is said: Venerable one, by what measure is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva said to have correctly entered the Mahayana? What is the Mahayana of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? And so on. Among them, the Mahayana and correctly entering the Mahayana are also shown in nine ways. The Venerable one said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, this Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the six perfections, practicing the perfection of generosity, and so on. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is said to have correctly entered the Mahayana. Thus, while completely practicing the six perfections, the four concentrations of the form realm, the four immeasurables, and the four formless absorptions are meditated upon in the manner of the Mahayana, which is the Bodhisattva's correct entry into the Mahayana. Such practice is the Mahayana, as shown, this is the first. Among them, it is said: Venerable one, by what measure is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva said to have correctly entered the Mahayana? What is the Mahayana of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? As the noble one said earlier, "Bhagavan, that is a being who has correctly entered the Mahayana," thus the meaning of what was briefly said.

To explain these in detail, the venerable Shariputra asked in order to distinguish the occasions. Gangpo replied: "O venerable Sharadvatiputra, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the six paramitas, that is, he practices the perfection of giving, and is separated from desires, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, etc. The Bodhisattva emphasizes the perfection of giving among the six paramitas, and incidentally cultivates samadhi, immeasurables, and formless attainments, thereby showing that he has correctly entered the Mahayana. Among them, 'separated from desires, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, possessing coarse investigation and subtle discernment, born of separation, possessing joy and bliss, abiding in the first dhyana' means that the nature and qualities of the first dhyana are explained. 'Separated from desires' means separated from afflictions such as attachment, and separated from the five objects of desire such as form, sound, smell, taste, and touch of the desire realm. 'Separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas' means separated from the evil deeds of body, speech, and mind arising from afflictions and the cause of desire, such as punishing with penalties, injuring with weapons, fighting, arguing, deceptive words, harmful words, false speech, etc. 'Possessing coarse investigation and subtle discernment' means that the coarse investigation and subtle discernment that counteract the afflictions of the desire realm have not yet been abandoned. 'Born of separation' means born of separation from the attachment and obscurations of desire. 'Possessing joy and bliss' means that the body and mind have become extremely pliant and workable. 'Abiding in the first dhyana' means that the samadhi possessing such qualities is completely cultivated and one abides in it. Investigation and discernment are pacified, the mind is completely clear, and the mind stream becomes one, without investigation, without

Without. Born from Samadhi. Having joy and happiness, the second Dhyana, approaching practice and dwelling is called showing the nature and merit of the second Dhyana. Seeing the distinction and observation of the first Dhyana as faults, in order to abandon the distinction and observation, it is called distinction and observation being pacified. The inside is completely clear, and the mind's continuum becomes one, which means that the distinction and observation are abandoned in this way, and the mind is not distracted at all, becoming one-pointed in Samadhi, which is to say that the mind is clear. The absence of distinction and observation is as mentioned above. Born from Samadhi, it is called the state of being without distinction and observation and the mind becoming one-pointed. Having joy and happiness is the same as before. He is free from desire from joy, possessing mindfulness and awareness, and dwells in equanimity. The body experiences bliss, and the noble ones say that he possesses mindfulness, and practices equanimity in bliss, which is called approaching and practicing the third Dhyana without joy and dwelling, which is to show the nature and merit of the third Dhyana. He is free from desire from joy, which means that in the first and second Dhyanas, the body is strong, and the mind is extremely gentle and capable, and joy causes the mind to be distracted. In this third Dhyana, even the subtle mental distraction of attachment to such joy is abandoned. Possessing mindfulness and awareness and dwelling in equanimity means that with mindfulness and awareness, there is no opportunity for the mental distraction of attachment to joy to arise, and there is no concern that the distraction of joy will arise. It is called dwelling in equanimity when the mind is naturally accomplished. The body experiences bliss, which means that the body and mind are capable and extremely gentle, and the bliss of the body becoming free is experienced. The noble ones say that he possesses mindfulness and practices equanimity in bliss, which means that the Shravakas of the Buddhas say that the meditator possesses mindfulness and
