The reason is the lack of contentment due to the deficiency of the accumulation of merit, and the incomplete maturation of sentient beings, and so on. Regarding this, like the habitual tendencies of ignorance, which are like the all-pervasive afflictions of afflictions; like the manifestation of uncontaminated actions, which are like the all-pervasive afflictions of actions; like the afflictions of birth, the aggregates of Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have attained mastery in the six realms are entered by the mind-made body. Due to this cause, again, like the cause of beings, for aging and death, there is the death and transference of inconceivable and complete transformation, as stated in the Sutra of the Lion's Roar of the Glorious Garland. Therefore, the statement of the three vehicles is intentional. Thus, the Perfection of Wisdom, which is the nature of the Great Vehicle, goes, and the path that goes there, and the vehicle of the nature of the result, although one, is established as three vehicles for the sake of guiding children to enter the Great Vehicle. Likewise, it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "In what I have taught as the One Vehicle, there is no establishment of vehicles. For the sake of completely guiding children, I have taught different vehicles." The Noble One also said: "Since the realm of phenomena is without difference, there are no different vehicles. The three vehicles are taught entirely for you to lead sentient beings." So it is. The realm of phenomena is the single suchness of all phenomena. If it were different due to the distinctions of philosophical tenets, it would lead to the fault of having no limit. One-sided wisdom cannot realize suchness; if it were realized, it would become too extreme. Therefore, it is through the wisdom that directly realizes the suchness of the selflessness of persons and phenomena that Nirvana is attained, and not through any other authentic Dharma. Therefore, the vehicle is one. Therefore, to establish that there is no authentic liberation on other paths, it is said in the Sutra Entering the Two Truths: Regarding this, by meditating on the selflessness of all phenomena, by what means are afflictions abandoned? They are not abandoned by other paths, because the root of afflictions is attachment to entities.

Thus it was said. Again it was said, "Manjushri, how can one fully understand afflictions, and thereby be able to go forth to subdue afflictions?" The answer: "In reality, with respect to unborn dharmas, by clinging to non-existent objects as existent, views of a reversed nature arise completely. From this, afflictions enter intensely. Furthermore, son of the gods, in reality, if one thoroughly understands that dharmas are unborn and does not engage in the practice of wisdom, that is the absence of non-reversed conceptualization. One does not cling to what is non-existent, and views do not arise completely. By abiding in that very unborn state, one should regard it as the very subduing of afflictions, through the practice of non-seeing. Moreover, having thoroughly understood the essence of unbornness in reality, and without engaging in the practice of thorough understanding, one fully understands afflictions through the practice of non-understanding. For example, just as reciting the name of a venomous fang pacifies the poison, similarly, knowing the nature of afflictions, those afflictions are pacified through the yoga of utter non-objectification. Again, son of the gods, in reality, this complete imputation upon all dharmas by things that are utterly unborn is said to be the nature of afflictions." Also, in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "All these beings will become Buddhas." It is said. Here also, since defilements are adventitious, the mind is naturally luminous, so all beings are endowed with the Tathagatagarbha, which is the nature of the Dharmadhatu. Therefore, it is intended that all can be trained to become perfectly enlightened Buddhas. Here, the teaching of the three vehicles is definitive in meaning, while the teaching of one vehicle is intentional. Furthermore, the assertion that there are sentient beings without the potential is a completely unfounded speculation and should be abandoned. The statement that there is not even one sentient being who cannot be trained to become a fully enlightened Buddha is the true meaning. Thus, by meditating on truth with all faculties, one will become free from attachment with equanimity. Those of middling faculties will do so to a lesser extent.
