Regarding what is called the path of becoming, and so forth. Concerning meditation, liberation, samadhi, and the defilement, purification, and arising of absorption: Meditation is fourfold. Liberation is eightfold. Samadhi is threefold, namely, with investigation and with analysis, and so forth. Absorption is the four formless absorptions and the nine successive abidings. Regarding defilement and so forth, defilement is tasting. Purification is signlessness and so forth. Arising is the lion's leap or transcendence. The remaining three are as stated in the sutra. Being taught reasonably without any fear, like a lion, is fearlessness. Its essence or function is that itself. Fearlessness is fourfold: fearlessness of complete enlightenment, fearlessness of the exhaustion of defilements, fearlessness of obstructing dharmas, and fearlessness of the path of definite liberation. Regarding complete enlightenment and so forth, fearlessness means vowing and rejoicing there. The first two are the characteristics of wisdom and abandonment, which are for one's own benefit. The latter two are for the benefit of others, because they are for teaching it to others. The extensive characteristics are as stated in the sutra. Here, too, śrāmaṇas and brahmins are mentioned in order to engage in the pride of wisdom. The mention of gods and demons is for the perfection of divine eye and knowing the minds of others. Brahmā is mentioned because his power and so forth are great. The statement "not seeing that cause" refers to the faults of the causes that they have overcome. Obtaining happiness, obtaining freedom from anxiety, and obtaining fearlessness refer to the complete purification of the actions of the body and so forth in sequence, that is, being free from goosebumps, pretension, and so forth, as well as incoherent speech, inferiority, and so forth, and doubts and depression in the mind, and so forth. Therefore, in sequence, vowing in the excellent place, proclaiming the true lion's roar. Turning the wheel of Brahmā. Brahmā is the Tathāgata, all the world.

Now, because of the manifest superiority of the deeds. It is of those Brahmas. Or Brahma is liberation, for the sake of that meaning it is of Brahma. In terms of going, it is a wheel, it is the meaning called the wheel of Dharma. All the twelve branches of the scriptures of the Tathagatas are Dharma. All that should be said about it is meaning. The collection of names of those themselves and so on, the definite words of many kinds are definite words. Or, all the Dharma of cause is Dharma. All the Dharma of effect is meaning. All the languages of all sentient beings belonging to the six realms are definite words, those individually knowing are in order, individually knowing Dharma, individually knowing meaning, and individually knowing definite words. In order to show other Dharmas and so on, Dharma and so on, individually and correctly knowing what has become manifest is fearlessness, this is also that, and also individually and correctly knowing, therefore it is fearlessness individually and correctly knowing. In order to practice without confusion, they are unconfused Dharmas, which means not common with others. That is also eighteen, as it is in the Sutra. Among them, the first is the action of the body, the second is the action of speech, and then the four are the actions of the mind completely purified. Then the six are the basis of the Tathagata's power and with the fruit, because there is no complete loss of what has not been obtained. Among them, the basis is desire. The fruit is liberation. The power is diligence and so on. Then the three are the nature of wisdom abiding in the actions of the body and so on is the nature of the cause of wisdom, and the nature of acting together with wisdom. Then wisdom that is not attached and unobstructed enters into the three times, therefore there are three, those six become eighteen. The so-called without confusion is like this, when the Arhats walk in cities and so on for the sake of merit, elephants and cattle and fierce dogs and thorns and scorpions Snakes and other harms arise, or in a quiet place there are fears of thieves and tigers and so on, such confusions are completely absent from the Tathagata, and he always thinks correctly.
