It should be eliminated through the door of (wisdom). If this is not clear, merely contemplating impurity etc., relying on this, one cannot completely eliminate the arising afflictions and the like. It will be said like this. Furthermore, as it is said in the scriptures: "Although meditation is practiced in the world, If it does not destroy my world, Afflictions will increase even more, Like meditating on samadhi in this place." The antidote to viewing as self is the view of no-self, because the view of no-self itself has no-self etc. as its object, and it is contrary to this. If these two (self-view and no-self-view) are similarly contradictory because their respective objects are contradictory, then what is the superiority of this (no-self-view) that only the view of no-self is established as the antidote to the view of sentient beings, and this (view of sentient beings) is not its antidote? It is not like that, because viewing sentient beings etc. has no object. Like this, is the object of this (view of sentient beings) something like what is completely imputed by others (conceptual thought) other than the aggregates etc. of things like people? Or is it the aggregates etc.? Even if the object is the same as things like people, is viewing sentient beings the nature of direct perception or the nature of inference? Regarding this, for the time being, this (view of sentient beings) is not direct perception, because it does not follow the conformity and opposition of the eyes etc. (sense faculties) like the appearance of blue etc., and it is a completely unclear aspect. It is not reasonable that a consciousness that arises without relying on the function of the sense faculties and appears unclearly is not direct perception, because if it were not so, then all consciousness would become direct perception. This (view of sentient beings) is also not the direct perception of the nature of discrimination, because it follows the wisdom that arises after seeing self and other, just like the mind that knows blue when seeing blue, because it does not discriminate in the way of self except for the general knowledge of the body etc. If it is said that because one knows "This is my body etc.," there exists a complete establishment (of knowledge) of different things, then it is not like that, because the term direct perception is impossible when only consciousness is operating, because other things different from this are blue.

Etc., seeing everything clearly, recognizing that this is a different quality from yellow etc., becomes the object of direct perception. If it is not like that, if only knowledge itself is direct perception, then all discriminations become the object of direct perception, therefore there will be no mistake or non-mistake at all. Therefore, if I and the universal awareness of the body etc. are not other, then the idea of otherness is wrong. This also refutes the claim that direct perception can prove the continuity of the three times of seeing, doing, and will do, because apart from the states of happiness etc. that are determined separately by time etc., it is impossible to show the continuous unique nature, and what is shown is not continuous either. Just having knowledge and thinking it is me is not direct perception either. Because there is no sign, it is not inference either, because the knowledge produced by the sign for the hidden meaning is inference, but for the I to be established, there is no sign at all. If you say that memory etc. is a sign, that is not right, because they are not directly related to me and the connection is unstable, and they are also damaged by measurement. Memory etc. and the nature destroyed by it are incompatible with the self-imagined by the nature that does not naturally perish and its nature. If mutually contradictory natures are also one, then there will be no difference at all, so all sentient beings will become the fault of having no name of difference and non-difference. Memory etc. is not my fruit either, because it has gradual birth. Because if the cause I is the nature of constant oneness, then it does not have order, it only depends on it, and it is unreasonable to produce gradual fruits. If you say that the inner I acts at the same time, relying on the gradual cause, and only produces its own fruit gradually, so the fruit is gradual, that is not right, because the constant Dharma itself cannot do benefit and does not depend on other Dharmas.

For this reason. Even if one thinks of benefiting, benefit is of the same nature as it, so if one does it, it becomes doing oneself, because even then, I am not permanent. If benefit is completely other than me, then like memory etc., the relationship is unreasonable, and it will become limitless. Therefore, the so-called benefiting self, is without relationship, while bestowing benefit on other things, not relying on the close agent, because it is separated from the sequential agent, relying only on it, memory etc. will arise simultaneously. If that is the case, then the second moment etc., the continuum of faults such as desire etc. is gone, all beings will attain the perfection of nirvana without effort, because desire etc. are also to be produced by me, so those impermanent ones will only arise simultaneously. Even so, I am impermanent, because the separator that previously produced memory etc., no longer does that after the moment. At that time, it is not a thing either, because the characteristic of a thing is the ability to function. Those that appear as two moons etc., separated from the function of external form etc., are also not established as things. This causes the aggregates etc. to also lose the aspect of permanence. It should be understood that the very object of the view of self is refuted, because it will be said below that those characteristics such as oneness etc. are unreasonable. Now, if there is no self etc., then how does the term, this is me, this is mine, apply to everything? How is it that yogis who have attained the knowledge of cessation and non-arising, the wisdom of my defilements are exhausted etc., is accomplished? That is not the case, because there is no relationship with self etc. and views with self etc. If something is completely established in relation to something, and only by eliminating it will it not arise, then the view of self etc. is also not established in relation to self, this has already been explained in detail above. Therefore, for the arising that appears as aggregates etc., the only one who is happy without investigation is
