It should be eliminated through the door (of wisdom). If that is not clear, merely cultivating aversion to things like ugliness, relying on that, will not be able to completely eliminate the arising afflictions. Therefore, it will be said: "Meditation is practiced in the world, If it does not destroy my world, Then afflictions become even more intense, Like meditating on samadhi in this place." It is like what was said. The antidote to the view of self is the view of selflessness, because the view of selflessness itself has selflessness and so forth as its object, so it contradicts the view of self. If you say, are these two not similar in that they contradict each other because their objects contradict each other? If so, what is the difference between these two, such that only the view of selflessness is established as the antidote to the view of sentient beings, and the view of self is not its antidote? Answer: It is not like that. Because the view of sentient beings and so forth has no object. Like this, is the object of this (view of sentient beings) something like what is completely imputed by others, other than the aggregates of material substance such as persons? Or is it the aggregates and so forth? Even if the object of the substance of a person is the same, would the view of sentient beings be of the nature of direct perception or of the nature of inference? Regarding that, first of all, this (view of sentient beings) is not direct perception, because it does not follow the following and reversing of the eyes and so forth, like the appearance of blue and so forth, and because it has an unclear aspect. A consciousness that arises without relying on the function of the senses and appears unclearly is not suitable to be not direct perception, because if it were not so, all consciousness would become direct perception. This (view of sentient beings) is also not a direct perception of the nature of discrimination, because it follows seeing me and others, like the mind that understands blue when seeing blue, but it does not discriminate the aspect of me unless it fully recognizes the body and so forth. If you say that this (view of sentient beings) has a different entity because it knows "this is my body and so forth," so there is an establishment of a different entity, then it is not so, because there cannot be a term of direct perception when it is merely the object of consciousness, because it is different from other things besides that, such as blue and so forth.
