Again, it is said. Then, a verse of complete dedication of merit was taught. Then, because this "Mother Sutra" is profound, a verse was taught, explaining that it is not my realm, but the realm of the noble ones. Then, a verse was taught, briefly explaining the request for forgiveness. This should be understood as the concise meaning of the commentary on "That Sutra." Having briefly explained the general way of combining like this, now slightly explain the meaning of the branches. Here, if someone asks, why does the Acharya begin by making prostrations at the very beginning? It is in order to bring the composed commentary to completion. Because making prostrations to a special object generates great merit in one's being, and the intentions of those with merit will surely be fulfilled. Therefore, in the "Noble Great Play Sutra," it is said, "The intentions of people with merit will also be fulfilled." Furthermore, in order to thoroughly demonstrate conformity with the conduct of the holy ones. In this way, beings will have faith in their own treatise. Because the holy ones of the world first make prostrations to special objects, and then begin the work they desire. And, in this treatise as well, it appears that prostrations are made at the beginning, so this Acharya is a holy one. The Prajnaparamita to which he prostrates is also holy, because it is for the sake of pleasing the holy ones, so for those who follow with faith, this becomes a means of entry. In this way, considering these two necessities, it was said at the very beginning, "Respectfully prostrating to the Prajnaparamita." Here, the Prajnaparamita that is spoken of has two aspects: the nature itself and the basis thereof. How so? The suchness of all dharmas, which cannot be spoken of as this or that in relation to dharmas, is the Prajnaparamita by its very nature. Therefore, whether the wise one abides in the world or in nirvana, this flawless nature of dharma, the emptiness of all dharmas, exists. The Bodhisattva realizes this suchness accordingly. Therefore, the Buddha is called Tathagata. It is said like this. And why is that? The Prajnaparamita is not a letter, therefore, for it, no one is a speaker, a listener, or a knower.
