The path of the Shravakas and the uncommon Bodhisattvas also enters into the realm of the profoundly signless. However, due to the power of the encouragement of the Tathagatas, they do not manifestly realize the ultimate reality. The so-called "abandonment of manifest clinging to all dharmas" refers to the subtle attachment to kings, etc., mentioned earlier. This subtle attachment is also severed from this ground onwards, but the accumulation of merit is not yet complete. Others believe that manifest clinging is abandoned in relation to the lower grounds, but subtle attachment is believed to exist up to the tenth ground. The so-called "attainment of enlightenment through the power of the perfection of aspiration" means that enlightenment here refers to the complete manifestation of Buddhahood in the form of the Rupakaya. The reason for attaining it is that because the accumulations are not complete, one cannot be enlightened with the complete manifestation of the Dharmakaya. However, due to the influence of those to be tamed, the complete manifestation of Buddhahood in the form of the Rupakaya is made possible by the power of aspiration. As it is said in the intermediate Mother Sutra: "Shariputra, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the six perfections, and emanates a body like that of a Buddha, going to as many Buddha-fields in the eastern direction as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, teaching the Dharma to sentient beings, and so on." So, how should we reconcile the statement in the Noble Ten Bhumi Sutra that "from the tenth Bhumi onwards, by the power of aspiration, one attains complete enlightenment in stages, such as descending from Tushita"? The reason is that at the time of the ninth Bhumi, the practice of attaining Buddhahood in a great many worlds is shown, thereby showing the distinction from the lower Bhumis. The phrase "having established various pure Buddha-fields" means that the fields are, in the true sense, the appearance of wisdom. Therefore, the Noble Vimalakirti Sutra also says, "Those who wish to enjoy the Buddha-field should purify their own minds." Here, too, it is said, "by the power of the perfection of wisdom." Such activities at the limit of the tenth Bhumi, such as being bound by one lifetime, are easily understood. Then, the practice...
