The term "abandoning all signs of defilement" means being free from all grasping, etc., without exception. The term "mind appearing as the nature of illusion" is because it is unreasonable to consider it as an entity of cause and effect. The term "non-conceptual" means being free from ignorance because it is empty of conceptualizations such as desire. "To be individually self-aware" means to be individually self-aware without deception. Like something, if it truly arises, it is abandoned, and it is connected to the following text. Now, from the opposite perspective, the meaning not mentioned in the verses, the superior one, is mentioned as "not like that," etc. The so-called "not like that" means that the essence is emptiness, and it is not admitted that afflictions, etc., will regress. Others cultivate the path of antidotes, but they do not perform even a little of that dharma, so no difference arises in the abandonment of afflictions, etc. How is it? Like space. How is it that, like space, without any substance, no difference in the nature of increase or decrease can be made in the essence, because it is constant, and in the ultimate sense, the essence of the entity exists as such. Thus, the analogy known to both internal and external heretics is spoken. Among them, the so-called "space without obscuration" means that from the tenets of the internal heretics, at all times, the space of all aspects is called the nature of accumulation like a rabbit's horn, and their reasons and establishment as entities are spoken as holding the essence like a non-entity. The tenets of the external heretics are the essence of non-entities and qualities, etc. Like the tenets of the internal heretics, the essence of form, etc., is the same as the general and the particular, and the non-difference is held like space, so there is no birth, immeasurability, non-abandonment, and non-removal, and one holds one's own essence, that is, whatever nature, and takes it as one's own with the essence of self, so it is the holding of all dharmas, because there is no truth, the moment of the grasper and the grasped abides only in non-arising, that is, only the nature of consciousness.

The reason for being called "non-existent" is that the nature of consciousness that grasps, such as emptiness, and the characteristics of knowable objects, as well as their causes, the nature of what is grasped, such as form, if they truly exist with a non-deceptive meaning, then at that time, nothing will be done. This should be understood in this way. Because for the present characteristics of the aggregates of afflictions such as form, as the antidote, the characteristics of the path, neither the past nor the future exists, so the moment of its arising, the present moment is also non-existent, therefore nothing is done. Just as space is constant, even if all phenomena are momentary, what difference is there if there is no excellent action? Because there is nothing, according to your view, practice is fruitless, and who can prevent not understanding the nature of the Dharma? It should be understood in this way. Regarding this, just as a painter draws a terrifying form of a yaksha, and after drawing it, he himself is afraid, so too are those who are unskilled in samsara. This is the answer that is spoken.

It should be known that this supreme fruit of abandoning afflictions cannot be achieved through the path of seeing, which is tainted by observing non-supreme things. In the Ornament of the Middle Way, it says: From a pure cause, a pure result arises. Just as pure limbs such as discipline arise from correct views. Also, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says: Several times, with one method, for a long time, by training with this, one can eliminate its merits and faults. What is said above is the meaning of this. Thus, by refuting the side of existence, it is shown that the tenets of grasping and so on are not true tenets. In all places, practicing the tenet of selflessness, which is without inherent existence, after firmly establishing and ascertaining it, those who desire liberation should accept this tenet. Those who desire perfect enlightenment should accept this, because this side of the selflessness of all things is the only one that is reasonable. This is the side of abiding, that is, the established tenet. The intermediate verses speak of this: In this, etc. In this, there is nothing to be refuted. Because of the reason for not being able to be liberated, one should refute the view of inherent existence, etc., which is adhered to by the inner Samkhyas and others. There is nothing to be added, meaning that one should not express it with the self and what belongs to the self, etc., which are adhered to by the outer Brahmanas and other non-Buddhists. In short, the views on conventional and ultimate truth, etc., are the remaining parts. Refuting the view of non-existence is what is mentioned above as "truth," etc. The so-called "truth" is true by dependent origination. One should observe and understand the manifested forms, etc., as they are. So, what will happen? "Seeing the truth, one is liberated," meaning that by practicing self-nature, one can abandon afflictions and their habitual tendencies, and thus become a Buddha. The meaning of this verse is what is mentioned above as "because," etc. Because of the things just mentioned
