From where does it begin, reversing the order, reaching up to the first dhyana, and again from those nine samapattis themselves, it is divided into two types. What are the samapattis one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight? Having surpassed and passed through them, from among them, which is the superior samapatti? It is called the distinction of meditation that degrades afflictions along with their latent tendencies. It goes differently up to cessation. It is said that the order that is in accordance with and not in accordance with the order, etc., where cessation is manifestly and universally accomplished, proceeding in a non-sequential manner, is the very path of cultivation here. It should be understood as such. The meaning expressed in verse is that Bodhisattva, etc., are mentioned. Starting from the first dhyana and going up to cessation, starting from the statement "desire is unwholesome," from the mind distracted by the discriminations of the desire realm, by approaching and taking hold, the first dhyana is manifested by the mind belonging to the form realm, going up to cessation, thus. The second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, and likewise. The formless realm has no place to dwell, and from arising there are four forms. As it is said, the mind belonging to the formless realm is space, consciousness, nothingness, and neither perception nor non-perception. After that is cessation. As it is said, proceeding sequentially, etc., after that, starting from cessation and reaching up to the first dhyana, it is called constantly cultivating in a manner not in accordance with the order, reaching up to the first dhyana, that is, reaching the nine samapattis with cessation, etc., as it is said. The order thus spoken, with the two orders of being in accordance with and not in accordance with the order, reaching the four dhyanas, the four formless states, and the nine samapattis characterized by cessation, starting from the first dhyana, reaching up to cessation is in accordance with the order, and starting from cessation, reaching up to the first dhyana is not in accordance with the order, this is a summary statement. Again, likewise, the types
