A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also cannot realize unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment. Subhuti, why is that? Because consciousness is empty of inherent existence. Therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, understanding that consciousness is empty of inherent existence, realizes unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment. Subhuti, if all-knowingness up to inherent existence were not empty, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also could not realize unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment. Subhuti, why is that? Because all-knowingness is empty of inherent existence. Therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, understanding that all-knowingness is empty of inherent existence, realizes unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment. Because unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment is empty of inherent existence. Therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, understanding that unexcelled, perfect Enlightenment is empty of inherent existence, realizes all-knowingness. Because of emptiness of inherent existence, no dharma whatsoever arises, abides, or goes. Otherwise, the world with the gods and the world with Mara and Brahma would foolishly think: 'This is form, my form, I am one with form,' up to 'This is consciousness, my consciousness, I am one with consciousness.' They would cling to form, up to clinging to consciousness, acting in terms of 'mine' and 'I.' Clinging to 'mine' and 'I,' they would cling to and be attached to internal and external things. Thus clinging

Clinging and attached, in the aggregates that arise, one grasps at form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. Therefore, one cannot escape from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and confusion, nor can one be liberated from the cycle of the five paths. The Seventieth Chapter. Therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Prajnaparamita of intrinsic emptiness, he does not cling to form as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to the aggregates, realms, and dependent origination as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to the Paramitas, all emptiness, and the dharmas of the path to enlightenment as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to the Noble Truths, meditative stabilizations, immeasurables, formless absorptions, liberations, the successive abidings of meditative stabilization, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, and the gateways of dharani as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha as being empty or not empty. He does not cling to unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment as being empty or not empty. Why is that? Because intrinsic emptiness is like this: This is form, this is the emptiness of form, so one does not cling to form. Intrinsic emptiness is like this: These are feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, this is the emptiness of consciousness, so for consciousness

does not disturb. Self-nature emptiness is these, namely, the sense bases, elements, and dependent arising. These are the emptiness of dependent arising, thus dependent arising is not disturbed. Self-nature emptiness is these, namely, the perfections, emptiness, and the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment. These are the emptiness of the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, thus the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment are not disturbed. Self-nature emptiness is these, namely, the noble truths, meditative stabilizations, immeasurables, formless absorptions, liberations, the successively abiding absorptions, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, superknowledges, samādhis, and the doors of dhāraṇī. These are the emptiness of the doors of dhāraṇī, thus the doors of dhāraṇī are not disturbed. Self-nature emptiness is these, namely, the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great loving-kindness, great compassion, and the unshared dharmas of the Buddha. These are the emptiness of the unshared dharmas of the Buddha, thus the unshared dharmas of the Buddha are not disturbed. Self-nature emptiness is these, namely, the fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, arhatship, solitary enlightenment, and enlightenment. This is the emptiness of enlightenment, thus enlightenment is not disturbed. Subhūti, for example, space does not disturb space. Inner space does not disturb outer space. Outer space does not disturb inner space. Subhūti, likewise, form does not disturb emptiness. Emptiness does not disturb form. Why is that? Because for them, like this, this is form, this is emptiness, thus it does not disturb.
