And abiding therein, even if one draws near to the Dharma and diligently practices it, it will not cause the Tathagata to rejoice, nor will the mind be pleased, nor will the heart be at ease. This is the first abiding in the Tathagata's thought. Some listen attentively and respectfully, but without a mind to draw near to the Dharma, nor do they diligently practice the Dharma, yet it will not cause the Tathagata to be angry, displeased, or unhappy. This is the second abiding in the Tathagata's thought. Some listen attentively and respectfully, and also draw near to the Dharma and diligently practice it. Some do not listen attentively or respectfully, nor do they have a mind to draw near to the Dharma, nor do they diligently practice the Dharma, yet it will not cause the Tathagata to rejoice or be angry. In short, for all things, having mindfulness and wisdom, and treating them with equanimity, this is the third abiding in the Tathagata's thought. Then, what is the immutable nature of the Tathagata? It is that the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, in order to proclaim the meaningful Dharma, do not exceed the time in benefiting all sentient beings. This is called the immutable nature. Then, what is the complete abandonment of the obscuration of habit by the Tathagata? All Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, although they have abandoned afflictions, still have changes in their bodies, but the Tathagata does not have such a thing. This is called the complete abandonment of the obscuration of habit. Then, what is the great compassion of the Tathagata? The great compassion of the Tathagata, with which he grasps the language of the world, and in order to observe the roots of virtue, he always contemplates the world three times during the day and three times during the night. In reality, the great compassion of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, constantly arises from observing the maturation of limitless sentient beings. This is called the great compassion of the Tathagata. Subhuti, what are the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha of the Tathagata? The Tathagata has no error.
