Knowledge of suffering, knowledge of the origin, knowledge of cessation, knowledge of the path, knowledge of exhaustion, knowledge of non-arising, knowledge of the Dharma, knowledge of following, knowledge of convention, knowledge of familiarity, knowledge of literal meaning, one should not meditate thinking they are real. All perfections and all emptinesses, one should not meditate thinking they are real. The six superknowledges, all samādhis, all dhāraṇī gates, the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, one should not meditate thinking they are real. The fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, arhatship, solitary enlightenment, up to omniscience, abandoning all afflictions that connect habitual tendencies, one should not meditate thinking they are real. Why is that? Subhūti, one who has a concept of reality does not meditate on the Perfection of Wisdom. One who has a concept of reality does not meditate on the Perfection of Meditation, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Generosity. One who has a concept of reality does not have the elimination of all afflictions that connect habitual tendencies. Why is that? Like this, he clings to the two extremes, thinking, "This is me" in relation to reality. Giving, morality, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, and even the elimination of all afflictions that connect habitual tendencies, he becomes attached to the two extremes, thinking, "This is me." Whoever becomes attached to the two extremes has no liberation. Why is that? Subhūti, one who has a concept of reality has no giving, no morality, no patience, no diligence, no meditation, no wisdom, and if there is no complete understanding up to the elimination of all afflictions that connect habitual tendencies, how can that one be liberated?
