The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, the suchness of all dharmas is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment." He asked: "Blessed One, how is the suchness of all dharmas the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, the suchness of form is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Feeling, perception, formations, and the suchness of consciousness, is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness of the sense bases, the elements, and dependent origination is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness of all perfections, all emptinesses, and the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness of the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the liberations, the successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the superknowledges, the samadhis, and the gateways of dharani is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness of the Tathagata's powers, the fearlessnesses, the distinct understandings, great love, great compassion, and the unmixed dharmas of the Buddha is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness up to all-knowingness is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The suchness of nirvana is the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, which neither increases nor decreases. Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, not separated from the Perfection of Wisdom, constantly and continuously applying his mind, will not find any dharma that increases or decreases.

nor does one truly see the increase or decrease of form, feeling, perception, formations, or consciousness, or even up to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Subhuti, thus, in the meaning that is inexpressible, there is no increase and no complete decrease. Subhuti, thus, in the perfection of giving, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In inner emptiness, there is no increase or complete decrease. From the emptiness of the nature of non-things up to the emptiness of the nature of non-nature, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In the mindfulnesses, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In the correct abandonments, the feet of miracles, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the noble eightfold path, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the liberations, the gradual abidings in absorption, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, and the doors of dharani, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. In the powers of the Thus-Gone One, the fearlessnesses, the separate correct knowledges, the great loving-kindness, the great compassion, and the unmixed qualities of the Buddhas, there is neither increase nor complete decrease. Subhuti, thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should practice the perfection of wisdom in the manner of no increase and no complete decrease, which is the essence of enlightenment as the main thing. Request: Blessed One, why is it that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has generated the first mind will manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? Or is it the mind of a later time?

By generating (bodhi)citta, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva attains the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. O Bhagavan, for a moment, if by generating the first citta, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva attains the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, then the first citta that is generated does not accompany the subsequent citta that is not generated. The subsequent citta that is not generated also does not accompany the first citta that is generated. O Bhagavan, in this way, if the citta and the dharmas arising from the citta do not accompany each other, how can the roots of virtue become an accumulation? Without accumulating the roots of virtue, one cannot attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, which is an argument without the meeting of cittas. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, therefore, in order to understand this meaning, I will show you an example. Here, through the example, the wise person will fully understand the meaning that is spoken. Subhuti, what do you think? When a wick is burned by an oil lamp, is it the first flame that touches and burns the wick, or is it the later flame that touches and burns the wick? He replied: O Bhagavan, the first flame does not burn the wick by touching it, nor does it burn the wick without relying on the first flame. O Bhagavan, the later flame does not burn the wick by touching it, nor does it burn the wick without relying on the later flame. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, what do you think? However, the wick is indeed burned. He replied: O Bhagavan, it is indeed burned. The Sugata is indeed burned. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, likewise, even by generating the first citta, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Without relying on the first citta that is generated, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Even by generating the later citta, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Without relying on the later citta that is generated
