Then, Subhuti, what do you think? If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, separated from the Perfection of Wisdom, abides for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges River, dedicating the material giving, the Dharma giving, and the mental engagement endowed with correct inner abiding to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? He replied: Bhagavan, greatly. Sugata, greatly. This is known as the small of the intermediate adverse factors. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, even more so, if a son or daughter of good family abides as taught in this profound Perfection of Wisdom, and for a few days dedicates the material giving, the Dharma giving, and the mental engagement endowed with correct inner abiding to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, the merit of that son or daughter of good family will increase even more greatly. Why is that? Subhuti, this is the supreme dedication, namely, the dedication of the Perfection of Wisdom. That which is dedicated separated from the Perfection of Wisdom is not a true dedication. Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who wishes to manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment should be skilled in the dedication of the Perfection of Wisdom, which is known as the great of the intermediate favorable factors. Subhuti, what do you think? If a son or daughter of good family, separated from the Perfection of Wisdom, abides for as many kalpas as there are sands in the Ganges River, rejoicing in all the roots of virtue of the Buddhas, the Bhagavatans, the Sangha of Hearers, and the Sangha of Bodhisattvas of the past, future, and present, and dedicates all those roots of virtue to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? He replied: Bhagavan,

Many indeed. The term "Many Sugatas" constitutes the great part of the minor category of opposing factors. The Blessed One declared: "Subhuti, therefore, whichever son or daughter of good family abides in this profound Perfection of Wisdom as it has been taught, and completely dedicates the roots of virtue of a few days to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, the merit of that son or daughter of good family will increase greatly. Why is that? Subhuti, this dedication is supreme, namely, the dedication of the Perfection of Wisdom." "Subhuti, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who desires to fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment should be skilled in the complete dedication of the Perfection of Wisdom." This is known as the small part of the great category of antidotal factors. Asked: "Blessed One, are all manifest attainments entirely conceptual constructs?" The Blessed One declared: "If so, how could the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly? Blessed One, due to manifest attainment, one cannot generate correct views or enter without fault, nor can one attain the fruit of stream-enterer, or the fruit of once-returner, or the fruit of non-returner, or attain Arhatship itself, or even awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." This is known as the intermediate part of the minor category of opposing factors. The Blessed One declared: "Subhuti, it is indeed so, it is indeed so. Due to manifest attainment, one cannot generate correct views or enter without fault, or attain the fruit of stream-enterer, or the fruit of once-returner, or the fruit of non-returner, or attain Arhatship itself, or even awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, even if attained, that manifest attainment of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom appears as emptiness in that way. It appears as supplication. It appears as healing."

It appears as emptiness. It appears as having no essence. Why is that? Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is extremely trained in inner emptiness. To be extremely trained between the emptiness of the nature of non-things is said to be the middle of the great category of antidotes. Subhuti, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abides in those emptinesses, and as they are manifestly produced, as they are thoroughly understood, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will not be separated from the Perfection of Wisdom. As the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is not separated from the Perfection of Wisdom, so immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless merit will increase, which is said to be propelled by the force of meaning, the smallest of the small of the unfavorable category, the greatest of the great of the antidote category. This is because it abides in the path of meditation, so it shows the sign of non-retrogression. Question: Blessed One, what is the difference between immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless? What is the distinction to be made? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the term "immeasurable" means that it does not come close to being counted in either the conditioned or unconditioned realms. Subhuti, the term "unmeasurable" means that no measure is perceived in the past, future, or present phenomena. Subhuti, the term "limitless" means that nothing can be measured by any other means. Question: Blessed One, by what means does form also become immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless? Are there means by which feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness also become immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, there is a means by which form also becomes immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless, and feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness also become immeasurable, unmeasurable, and limitless, which is said to be the characteristic of closely representing immeasurability and so on.
