I do not fixate on the thirty-seven dharmas of the path to enlightenment as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on the noble truths, the dhyanas, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine successive absorptions as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on the superknowledges, the samadhis, the gateways of dharani as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on the state up to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment as empty or not empty. I do not fixate on the conditioned realm as empty or not empty. I do fixate on the unconditioned realm as empty or not empty. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices this Prajnaparamita, whatever he gives as alms, whether it be food, drink, vehicles, clothing, flowers, garlands, incense, unguents, bedding, dwelling, livelihood, utensils, or any human necessities, he does not truly see that he is giving that alms. He does not see what he is giving away or to whom he is giving it away, therefore, there is no occasion for a miserly mind or a grasping mind. Why is that? Because for a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices Prajnaparamita, from the arising of the first thought until he sits at the Bodhi tree, all those discriminations do not exist. Just as the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, when he attains unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, does not have a miserly mind or a grasping mind, so too, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices Prajnaparamita does not have a miserly mind or a grasping mind.

There is no place of arising, because this Perfection of Wisdom is the teacher of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Those roots of virtue are not dedicated to Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but are shared with all sentient beings and dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? It is dedicated in such a way that the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas abide in the Perfection of Wisdom and completely uphold the Perfection of Giving. Asked: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the Perfection of Wisdom and completely uphold the Perfection of Morality? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the Perfection of Wisdom and does not open the opportunity for the ground of Shravakas or the ground of Pratyekabuddhas. Why? Because he does not focus on the ground of Shravakas or the ground of Pratyekabuddhas. He also does not focus on that mind, from the initial generation of the mind, until abiding under the Bodhi tree, I have also abandoned killing. And I encourage others to abandon killing, I praise the merits of abandoning killing, and I rejoice in agreement with those who have abandoned killing. I have also abandoned taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, covetousness, malice, and wrong views. And I encourage others to abandon wrong views, I praise the merits of abandoning wrong views, and I rejoice in agreement with those who have abandoned wrong views. If such morality does not cling to any Dharma of Shravakas or Pratyekabuddhas, what need is there to mention others? Those roots of virtue are also shared with all sentient beings and dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment.

Dedicating to Bodhi, how and with what does one dedicate, to what does one dedicate, and thus one dedicates without adhering to the three concepts of where to dedicate. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom is one who upholds the Perfection of Morality. Request: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom uphold the Perfection of Patience? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom generates conforming patience, and thinks thus: In this, there is no dharma that arises, ceases, emerges, decays, dies, scolds, reviles, reveals faults, cuts off, severs, or beats. Thus, from the initial generation of the mind until abiding on the Bodhi seat, if all sentient beings come before him, scolding and sending away, or beating with stones, or stabbing and cutting with weapons, he also thinks thus: How wonderful! The Dharma-nature of all dharmas is very rare, in this, there is no dharma that scolds, sends away, cuts off, severs, beats, or binds. He also does not dedicate those roots of virtue to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but having made them common with all sentient beings, he dedicates them to the Unsurpassed Perfect and Complete Bodhi, how and with what does one dedicate, what is dedicated, and thus one dedicates without adhering to the three concepts of where to dedicate. Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom is one who upholds the Perfection of Patience. Request: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom uphold the Perfection of Diligence?
