What is its conduct? What is its laziness? Thinking, those roots of virtue are not dedicated to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but are shared with all sentient beings and dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. How is that dedicated, by what is it dedicated? What is dedicated? The three concepts of where it is dedicated do not intervene, and it is dedicated in this way. O Subhuti, thus the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditation and fully upholds the perfection of patience. Chapter Fifty-eight. Request: O Bhagavan, how does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of meditation and fully uphold the perfection of diligence? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditation, separated from desire, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with initial application and sustained application, dwells having attained the first dhyana, which is born of seclusion and endowed with joy and pleasure. When initial application and sustained application cease, the inner being is purified, and with singleness of mind, without initial application and without sustained application, dwells having attained the second dhyana, which is born of concentration and endowed with joy and pleasure. He, detached from desire for joy, dwells in equanimity, mindful and fully aware, experiencing pleasure with the body, and the noble ones say that he dwells mindfully in pleasure with equanimity, dwells having attained the third dhyana, which is without joy. He abandons pleasure and abandons suffering, and with the previous cessation of mental pleasure and displeasure, without pleasure and without suffering, dwells having attained the fourth dhyana, which is the purity of equanimity and mindfulness. He does not apprehend the characteristics of the dhyana and the limbs of the dhyana, and with a mind thus equipoised, he experiences various kinds of miraculous powers, and he also causes this great earth to tremble greatly. Becoming one and becoming many.

Thus it is. Becoming many, and becoming one. Experiencing both the visible and the invisible. Passing through walls, passing through fences, passing through mountains without obstruction, just like a bird in the sky. Also walking in the sky, just like a winged bird. On the earth, also rising upwards and diving downwards, just like in water. Also walking on water without sinking, just like on land. Spreading like smoke and blazing like fire, just like a great pile of fire. These suns and moons, which have such great magical powers, such great strength, and such great authority, can also be touched with the hand, and the body can exercise power between the Brahma worlds. He has a pure, superhuman divine ear, and can hear the sounds of gods and humans, whether near or far. He knows the minds of other beings and persons completely and truly with his own mind. He knows a mind with desire as a mind with desire, truly as it is. He knows a supreme mind as a supreme mind, truly as it is. He remembers many past lives, from remembering one thought to remembering a hundred thoughts. From remembering one eon to remembering a hundred eons. He even remembers countless hundreds of thousands of millions of eons. I was in such and such a place, my name was so and so, my clan was so and so, my race was so and so, my food was such and such, I lived there for so long, and my life ended there. Like this, I died and was reborn in such and such a place, and then I died and was reborn here. He remembers his own and others' many past lives, including their forms, reasons, and signs. He has a pure, superhuman divine eye, and sees the death and rebirth of beings, and truly knows how beings go according to their actions. He dwells in these five kinds of higher knowledge.
